Match observations:
The Big Fight was an excellent follow-up to VCW's last pay-per-view,
Wrestlewar, and it proved to have some very entertaining results. The matches
that took place tonight altered the course that VCW is on, as old feuds were
settled, new feuds were created, and alliances and friendships were stretched
to the breaking point by the anything-goes, every-man-for-himself atmosphere of
the Big Fight.
Richard Tobian won the Big Fight itself, lastly eliminating David Wright
Hubbard and Rex Richards in spite of a dangerous two-on-one situation, and he
will be the number-one contender for the VCW World Title until Blood and
Thunder '99, which will go down on August 1st. He may indeed get the title shot
at Gabriel Black that he has wanted for so long. However, he wasn't quite so
lucky later on in the night, when Rex Richards came out to cost him his match
against Bass Rogers.
Ruby Richard Cage did quite well for himself, lasting over a half-hour
in the Big Fight which included a shocking elimination of Troy Black, then
going on to defeat Haigeikobai immediately afterwards. However, in his attempts
to help tag team partner "Holiday" Hunk Higgins, he failed, and accidentally
gave Stormy the easy victory in that match. Afterwards, the Middle-Aged Outlaws
split up, claiming that the problem was "a matter of respect". As if anybody
respects them anyway...
While Dean Sanders is taking a sixty-day vacation courtesy of VCW's
suspension policy against striking a referee, Lord Steven Regal was granted a
one-night membership in the Golden Society in the hopes that he could defeat
Tim Bell. Those hopes turned out to be futile, however, as Tim Bell defeated
Steven Regal in a pretty even match. Likewise, Marty Jannetty was brought in to
replace Dean Sanders in the Big Fight... he wasn't doing anything important
anyway.
After all of his boasting and bluster, Neytron DelArmeggio was torn to
shreds by Devaccio Pola in the Death Match tonight, losing three falls in a row
immediately. Nobody expected Devaccio Pola to be on top of his game like he was
tonight... already, he is being considered for multiple title shots after his
performance tonight. He was the underdog in this match, yet he destroyed his
opposition.
Jacob Idol was defeated quickly by Marylin Silvera after he
unfortunately took a nasty blow to the skull when he fell against the cage in a
bad way, knocking him cold and making him an easy victim for a pin by Marylin
Silvera. Jacob Idol's situation then went from bad to worse when his breathing
became obstructed after he was knocked unconscious, which resulted in quite a
scare; fortunately, Marylin Silvera was skilled in lifesaving techniques and
managed to restore normal breathing to him. However, in his dazed state of
mind, Jacob Idol was unable to tell what had happened, and attacked Marylin
Silvera after regaining consciousness. Hopefully things can become cleared up
tomorrow night... it remains to be seen whether the stipulations assigned to
this match by Marylin Silvera will be upheld.
Lance Errington won the Intercontinental Title tonight in a match
against Johnny Smiles, but contrary to what he might claim, this was an
extremely hard-fought, even match; Johnny came to fight tonight. In the end,
the in-ring experience and technical skill of Lance Errington enabled him to
score the victory... but after the match, he and Lady Erica Whitmore became a
little too cocky in their celebration and abuse of Johnny Smiles and his
girlfriend Virginia, and each of them paid for it with a Smiledriver through a
table. Johnny Smiles promised a big surprise tomorrow night... God only knows
what he's planning.
The Ontario Color Show, in spite of constant bickering and disagreement
between Owen Addison and Paul Canyon, managed to work together and defeat the
Immortals and the Annihilators to retain their VCW World Tag Team Titles. The
fact that they were able to win a match even with such strong dissention is a
testament to their greatness as a tag team... they are still VCW World Tag Team
Champions, after putting away the Annihilators in true Ontario Color Show
fashion.
Melissa DelArmeggio snuck a win past the Torturer with hit-and-run
tactics and some quick thinking at the end, but was attacked later on by the
Torturer and put in the Torture Rack. As Liberation X was tied up in the aisle
by the Inquisition, Troy Black attacked the Torturer and saved Melissa as he
had failed to do two weeks earlier. After an embrace in the ring, Melissa ran
to help Liberation X fight off the Inquisition, and David Wright Hubbard
stepped into the ring to do battle with Troy Black.
David Wright Hubbard, through superior size and technique, was able to
really take the fight to Troy Black, overpowering him in brawls outside of the
ring and outwrestling him in the ring. However, Troy's superior quickness and
reflexes, as well as his refusal to stay down no matter how much punishment he
received, enabled him to hit the Black Dagger and finally put David Wright
Hubbard away after over twenty grueling minutes in a great match that nearly
stole the show from the main event.
The main event ladder match, however, was truly the big event of the
evening. In spite of some interference by the Inquisition, it was a great
match, as Gabriel Black and Falcon beat each other senseless in the name of
trying to capture the VCW World Title. Gabriel Black took a Superkick and
refused to stay down; and it took two Destiny Hammers in rapid succession to
keep Falcon down long enough for Gabriel Black to finally climb the ladder and
claim the VCW World Title. Gabriel Black is still the VCW World Champion, but
Falcon put up one hell of a fight... one that won't be forgotten soon.
