Match observations:
Troy Black's refusal to be Falcon's tag team partner in a title defense
against the Annihilators in the opening scene of the show added even more
distrust to their already dubious "alliance", especially when Falcon attacked
Troy, and even more so when the Torturer saved Troy from a beating at the hands
of Falcon. Though the exact relationship between the three men was in question,
one thing that was for certain after that was the fact that Troy Black would
not be at Falcon's side to defend the VCW World Tag Team Titles tonight.
Ruby Richard Cage was next on the VCW booking agenda, as he challenged
former partner Hunk Higgins to a match at Wrestlewar, continuing the feud that
has been dubbed the "A Matter of Respect" feud due to the insistence of both
ex-Middle-Aged Outlaws that the phrase be rammed down the throats of the VCW
audience. Fortunately, it didn't take long for Devaccio Pola to get irritated
with Ruby Richard Cage and his delusional ramblings and come out to shut him
up.
Next, VCW welcomed its third female competitor in the form of Jessica
Judd, the newest wrestler to call herself "Double J" and try to pass herself
off as a country music singer. She displayed a decent amount of technical
wrestling skill, certainly more than Melissa DelArmeggio and Virginia have
shown in the past, and defeated her much larger, stronger opponent, Russel "The
Muscle" Taylor. Her VCW debut has been successful so far; but it remains to be
seen how well she'll do against real VCW competition.
Speaking of female competitors in VCW, Virginia made quite an impact
tonight, defeating Neytron DelArmeggio in the first of a series of matches that
saw DeJohnnyration X go 3-0 against the Golden Society. She also spoke on
camera for the first time, surprising many VCW fans; she's normally the silent
type. Later on in the night, Johnny Smiles defeated Chris Champlain for a
second straight victory, and Lady Erica Whitmore intentionally caused Lance
Errington's disqualification against Marty Jannetty, resulting in Lance
Errington retaining the Intercontinental Title though the Golden Society went
0-3 as a result. It was an even match that could have gone either way; perhaps
Lance and Erica just didn't feel like putting up with Marty Jannetty.
Bass Rogers, angry as a result of a recent eighteen second loss to Rob
Solomon, challenged him to a revenge match tonight. This time, the match went
the other way, as Bass Rogers defeated Rob Solomon with his Moonsault, evening
up the record between the two men. Even without the Television Title on the
line, however, it's obvious that both men still feel a great deal of resentment
and dislike of one another; it's more than likely that they'll meet again.
Gabriel Black had quite a bit of airtime to express himself, and used it
to make several matches. In addition to throwing out a challenge for Richard
Tobian to meet Moy Lazzario in a Towel Match at Random Casualties (which Tobian
accepted later in the evening), commenting (or rather, declining to comment) on
his upcoming match against Ken Collins, and "revealing" that Troy Black has
been on his side all along (that's still highly in question), he also made an
announcement, almost as an afterthought, that he would be wrestling a "bald-
headed, goatee-bearded WWF champion" who wears black trunks and boots next
week, which is made possible by the fact that next week's RAW is WAR is a taped
episode. This match, if in fact everything is set in stone and finalized, may
be the biggest interpromotional event in the history of VCW or the WWF.
The first half of the double main event, pitted Falcon and a partner
against the Annihilators in a title shot that was promised last week by Falcon.
The chosen partner, because Troy Black was unwilling to participate in this
match, ended up being Haigeikobai, who managed to get in a few seconds of
incredibly weak offense when he got the hot tag from Falcon a couple of times,
but was mostly useless and always ended up needing to be saved from certain
defeat by Falcon. This was basically a handicap match for Falcon, who in spite
of a valiant fight could not overcome a first-rate tag team like the
Annihilators with only Haigeikobai to assist him. The only reason he and
Haigeikobai retained the titles is due to the fact that Gabriel Black attacked
Brian Rivera when a pinfall victory over Falcon was certain.
Some of the night's biggest news, including the main event, came about
when two of VCW's top tag teams tried their luck in singles competition, with
pretty much disappointing results. The Ontario Color Show, holding Troy Black
and the Torturer responsible for their unfair loss of the VCW World Tag Team
Titles, challenged them to singles matches, only to be defeated in spite of
putting up a good fight. The Immortals didn't have much more success; although
Robert Danson took the fight to Tim Bell, it resulted in a disappointing
double-countout, and Ken Collins was outclassed, plain and simple, against
Gabriel Black, though he managed to put up a good fight on his way down.
If nothing else, due to the VCW World Title match that Gabriel Black
announced this week, next week's show should be hot. Melissa DelArmeggio, David
Wright Hubbard, and the Wrecking Crew, as well as many more VCW stars, will be
featured on next week's installment of VCW Monday Night Wrestling. See you
then.
