Match observations:
Tonight, originating from the Compaq Center, VCW Monday Night Wrestling
made a triumphant return to Monday night television, after last week's
preemption from that crappy movie, Schala: Warrior Temptress. Anyway, as the
final show before VCW's blockbuster pay-per-view, Horror Show, which will take
place this Sunday, we expected a lot of action tonight. As it turns out, we
weren't disappointed.
After a ten-bell salute for the late Gorilla Monsoon, VCW Monday Night
Wrestling was off and running, as VCW World Champion Gabriel Black opened the
show by challenging four of his least favorite fellow VCW stars to a War Games
match with the Inquisition. This would result in Stacey Lockman running hither
and yon trying to get responses from the four superstars challenged. For once,
she actually had to earn her paycheck. Anyway, all four had their own way of
accepting the challenge, so the match was made for later tonight.
After that, the Immortals proceeded to make an utter disgrace of
themselves again by showing footage of the two of them, with Nicole, supposedly
shopping for evening gowns. It was a totally embarrassing display of the
incompetence the Immortals are often known for, at its worst. Their subsequent
quick victory over the team of Russel "The Muscle" Taylor and the Super Giant
Ninja did little to redeem them. On the other hand, this may have been a ploy
by the Immortals to get the Annihilators to take their guard down and not be
worried about the Immortals... but who knows? Really, who cares?
Hell's Bikers and the Ontario Color Show met in singles matches, and
each match resulted in somewhat of an upset. The powerhouse of Hell's Bikers,
Jack Norman, lost to the much smaller and more agile Paul Canyon via a small
package, while Owen Addison, the spokesman and apparent leader of the Ontario
Color Show, lost to Butch Manson after being hit in the head by a crowbar.
Unofficially, it's being planned that Hell's Bikers, along with Dick Douglas,
will face all three remaining members of the Technicians at Horror Show.
The Boise Triad members, Wham Bam Gigolo and Bunyan, didn't seem to be
any more successful without former partner Ruby Richard Cage, who they claimed
was weighing them down. Chris Champlain kicked out of Bunyan's Splatliner
easily, then planted him with a DDT on a chair, while Tim Bell totally
outmanuvered the large, clumsy Wham Bam Gigolo for a victory as well. These
combined matches took under two minutes, too. Obviously, Ruby Richard Cage has
had some equally poor performances in the ring, but it seems that when Wham Bam
Gigolo and Bunyan call Ruby Richard Cage a bad wrestler, they should look to
themselves first.
Rex Richards and Rushmore had a brutal match. No, there wasn't much in
the way of blood loss or violent attacks... but it certainly was brutal to
watch! What was one of the worst VCW matches of all time was mercifully ended
when Bass Rogers slipped Rex Richards some brass knuckles, which he used to
cold-cock Rushmore. And the whole mess took over eight minutes, too.
Fortunately, VCW fans may take solace in knowing that the member of the booking
committee responsible for that atrocity was dismissed from his duties and
subsequently beaten up. Surry about that.
Johnny Smiles had quite a few wise-cracks for the Heroes of Wrestling
disaster that took place last; specifically, for Marty Jannetty and Sensational
Sherri, who took part in it. That led to Marty Jannetty challenging Johnny
Smiles to a Table Match, which led to Marty Jannetty taking a Smiledriver
through a table tonight. It's looking like leaving DeJohnnyration X was a bad
move for Marty Jannetty.
Lance Errington and Lady Erica Whitmore had some very unkind words
concerning Troy Black tonight prior to the Golden Society's match against Troy
Black and the Annihilators. While one would think that this would be added
motivation for Troy to really assault Lance Errington with a vengance, the
Golden Society managed to hold their own, and eventually picked up the win in a
hard-fought, even match.
When fans saw that the main event was beginning a good long time before
the show was scheduled to end tonight, many of them thought that perhaps there
was something extraordinary going on tonight. They were right... tonight, eight
of VCW's top stars put themselves through nearly an hour sheer hell tonight in
a War Games match. While not everybody was quite up for the task of going for
fifty minutes straight (the Manhunters and Crimson, in particular, tired rather
quickly), everybody really took a lot of abuse. In addition to the hellacious
blood loss a VCW audience has come to expect from Gabriel Black, David Wright
Hubbard, and Falcon, Crimson also lived up to his name, turning the ring
crimson with blood. Finally, mercifully, Falcon ended the carnage when he
submitted to Moy Lazzario's bow-and-arrow submission.
Richard Tobian didn't seem to pleased with that result, however; which
is understandable, since he had Gabriel Black locked in a scorpion deathlock at
the time. Would Richard Tobian have wrung a submission from Gabriel Black had
Falcon not submitted first? Who can say? But Richard Tobian definitely took
this as further evidence that Falcon was on the side of the Inquisition, and
quickly dispensed his idea of justice with a chair, then gave Falcon the Ric
Flair treatment of slamming the cage door on his head.
But even then, the carnage still wasn't over. The Torturer came in with
a wooden axe handle, and all hell broke loose. Just about everybody still
standing, even Jessica Judd, who wasn't even in the match, took a shot from the
axe handle. But just when it looked like Gabriel Black was going to come out on
top of this situation again, David Wright Hubbard took control with the axe
handle, and beat the hell out of his former boss with it as the show concluded.
Well, what more can be said? Even Horror Show will have a tough act to
follow this Sunday, coming off a great match between the Golden Society and
Troy Black and the Annihilators, and a brutal War Games match where the
Inquisition and their enemies nearly killed each other for the amusement of the
crowds. But then again, given the quality of recent VCW pay-per-view events,
don't be surprised if Horror Show ends up being even better than what we saw
tonight. Whatever the case, don't miss Horror Show, this Sunday, on pay-per-
view!!
