Match observations:

Considering that tonight's pay-per-view was Horror Show, set at a time
of year when superstition holds that the inner evil is drawn out of all things,
perhaps it was to be expected that bad intentions would be clear in the minds
of many of VCW wrestlers, and that mercy and compassion would generally fall by
the wayside. Tonight had a way of bringing out the mean streak in a lot of
VCW's wrestlers, resulting in a lot of problems for those who ended up on the
losing end.
Even tonight, one thing remains constant, however; the Middle-Aged
Outlaws, Russel "The Muscle" Taylor, and the Super Giant Ninja continue to
linger on the bottom of the ladder, providing matches for the Waste-of-Time and
doing very little of importance. Sometimes, things change... but some things
never seem to change at all.
Tattoo's handicap match with the Manhunters wasn't scheduled tonight,
but it opened the pay-per-view, as Tattoo destroyed the Manhunters in grand
fashion. As one of the biggest, strongest men in VCW, it's somewhat of a
mystery why Tattoo hasn't become more involved. One would think that if Tattoo
set his mind on winning a title or two in VCW, that it would be very hard for
anybody to stop him.
Julian Page and Lance Errington both had their minds set on winning
titles tonight; specifically, the titles belonging to Jiro Tobikuma. Lance
Errington went right on the attack, hooking the Scorpion Deathlock on Julian
Page early in the match, and nearly squeezing a submission out of him in the
first minute or two of the conflict. But Julian Page persevered, despite Lance
Errington's offense taking a heavy toll on his back and legs. In the end,
despite the fight that Julian Page was putting up, Lance Errington seemed ready
to win when Julian Page pulled out a pair of brass knuckles and nailed him with
them. That set up the DDT and a subsequent victory for Julian Page, earning him
the right to compete for Jiro Tobikuma's titles. The night wasn't over for
Lance Errington, though, as we would find out.
The Heavy Metal Express, Marty Jannetty and Lars Coverdale, are also
poised in a position to earn a title shot in the near future after winning a
big four-corners match against the teams of Jack Norman and Butch Manson, Main
Street Pete and Dave Adams, and Moy Lazzario and Steve McMichael. This match,
unlike the VCW World Tag Team Title match later in the evening, was NOT an
elimination-style match, so after Lars Coverdale connected with the superkick
on Main Street Pete, a free-for-all broke out as everyone scrambled to keep the
match from ending with an opposing team member scoring a victory. But it turned
out that when the smoke cleared, Marty Jannetty and Lars Coverdale were the
last men standing, and they were quick to polish off Main Street Pete with the
Double Superkick, winning the biggest match of their VCW tag team career.
Arthur Justice took the fight to Johnny Smiles with his size and
superior power, but despite being seemingly outclassed, Johnny did something
totally unexpected. He outwrestled Arthur Justice, and beat him in the middle
of the ring. Arthur Justice still seemed unwilling to accept membership in
DeJohnnyration X after his defeat, but when Virginia asked him, he accepted the
offer. He definitely seemed more receptive to Virginia than to Johnny, though
it may be too early to read much into it. As it turns out, his membership would
prove to be a key difference-maker in some of the events that would go down
later tonight.
Jeff Wright's attempts at revenge on his former teammate, Brian Rivera,
didn't materialize tonight. Despite his unusual behavior and attitudes, Brian
Rivera appeared to be every bit the wrestler that his partner was, perhaps
moreso. Even so, Jeff Wright obviously had a lot of pent-up anger, and he
enjoyed taking it out on Brian Rivera tonight, giving him a world-class
thrashing. He seemed to have Brian Rivera in big trouble when Stormy Weathers
put his foot on the rope, saving him from a pin. A few seconds later, Brian
Rivera proved that perhaps he has a brain after all when he countered his
partner's Tiger Driver, then set up his own finishing move, the Bitch Slap, for
the victory. While it might be premature to say that he's the better half of
the team, it's hard to say that Brian Rivera isn't a hell of a wrestler after
seeing this match.
It would have been very easy for Lance Errington to throw his match Jiro
Tobikuma tonight. Fatigued from his loss to Julian Page and facing a fresh
opponent, it seems like he would benefit from letting Jiro Tobikuma have this
one without much of a struggle, leaving him fresh and able to carve Julian Page
apart later in the evening. But that's not what Lance Errington did. He took
the fight to Jiro Tobikuma, working over his back and legs like he did to
Julian Page. Jiro Tobikuma returned his offense full-force, producing one of
the better matches of the night. Lance Errington just wouldn't settle for a
second defeat tonight; even after Jiro Tobikuma countered his attempt at an Ace
Crusher, he ducked a lariat, tried again, and connected with the Ace Crusher on
the second try. That set up the Scorpion Deathlock, and though Jiro Tobikuma
held on for a very long time, knowing that every second weakened him further
for his matches with Julian Page, eventually he had no choice but to submit,
giving Lance Errington the match.
The match for the VCW True Women's Achievement Title was short, intense,
and surprisingly decent in terms of wrestling quality. As expected, Christina
Ellis dominated the match. Jennie was outwrestled, overpowered, and just
incapable of overcoming Christina Ellis without some sort of miracle.
Fortunately for her, a miracle came. Jessica Judd, the former employer and
friend of Jennie, came to the ring and hit Christina Ellis with her guitar
while the referee was down, then threw Jennie on top. One three-count later,
and Jennie was once again the VCW True Women's Achievement Champion. Once
again, Jennie produced a pair of safety scissors and tried to strip Christina
Ellis, but she escaped when Jasmina Chastity interfered. Jasmina Chastity's act
proved to be an act of sacrifice, however, as she was laid out and stripped
topless by Jennie and Jessica Judd. Christina Ellis and Jasmina Chastity have
to be furious at Jessica Judd over this turn of events... but like Christina
Ellis, Jessica Judd knows how to wrestle. This situation seems to have just
gotten a lot more interesting.
Salvaje Demonio failed to defeat Devaccio Pola tonight, but in the
course of trying he helped to produce a match that, given its length, was truly
great. Devaccio Pola emerged with the victory, but he didn't come out looking
like the winner, because Stormy Weathers brought a pair of giants to the ring,
Jorge Gonzalez and Ron Reese. They laid out not only Devaccio Pola, but Salvaje
Demonio as well, after Stormy Weathers fired him for being unable to win this
match tonight. Stormy Weathers has a pair of powerful new allies... but at the
same time, he also has a pair of dangerous enemies in Salvaje Demonio and
Devaccio Pola.
Sometimes you don't get what you expect... but sometimes you do. When
Dick Douglas started running his mouth and making light of John Uldwall's
problems and the injury of his partner, Blade, it was expected that he'd end up
getting the crap beaten out of him when John Uldwall finally caught him. And
tonight, that's exactly what happened, as John Uldwall tore into Dick Douglas
like a piece of raw meat and left him looking like ground hamburger in the
middle of the ring. It would be nice to say that maybe Dick Douglas has learned
his lesson, but I think we all know better than that.
It was expected that Jacob Idol and Rob Solomon would learn a painful
lesson tonight, and in many ways they did, fighting Stiff Competition, the
Ontario Color Show, and the Immortals tonight without any help. Though this
match was supposed to be a Four Corners Match, the other three teams refused to
fight anybody but Jacob Idol and Rob Solomon, so the end result was Idol and
Solomon taking a beating for the majority of the match. When Owen Addison was
disqualified for illegal use of the hockey stick, it was a fluke, and left the
Hammer of the Gods with four remaining hostile opponents and a snowball's
chance in hell of winning. When Jacob Idol small packaged Bass Rogers for a
quick victory, it gave the Hammer of the Gods a chance, but a faint one, as
they struggled to face the relatively fresh Immortals after taking a fifteen-
minute beating. When Jacob Idol was caught in the California Crossface, that
chance seemed to disappear, but in fact it opened up an opportunity. The
referee was busy asking Jacob Idol for a submission, and didn't see Jasmina
Chastity stun Robert Danson with a sneak attack chair shot. Robert Danson was
knocked off the apron and disoriented, and didn't recover in time to stop the
pinfall after Rob Solomon broke the California Crossface with the Katana
Legdrop and put Jacob Idol on top of Ken Collins for the win. The Hammer of the
Gods did the seemingly impossible tonight and earned the VCW World Tag Team
Titles against all odds.
Their teammate and leader, Julian Page, strived to do the same thing
tonight against Jiro Tobikuma. Both men were left with a weakened back and
weakened legs from Lance Errington and his Scorpion Deathlock, and in the first
match, that proved advantageous for Jiro Tobikuma, as he capitalized with a
tiger driver to retain the VCW Television Title. Julian Page wasn't to be
beaten twice, however; after escaping from virtually every other trick in Jiro
Tobikuma's playbook, including a scorpion deathlock which capitalized on Lance
Errington's earlier work, Julian Page escaped the tiger driver, like Brian
Rivera before him tonight, and countered with a flurry of his own offense. Jiro
Tobikuma didn't go down easily, but a DDT and a handful of tights brought the
Intercontinental Title back to Julian Page.
Falcon's meeting with Randy Savage was a nasty, messy brawl pitting
Savage's toughness and experience against Falcon's speed and athleticism. Both
of them pulled out all sorts of tricks and offensive moves against each other,
but in the end, Lady Erica Whitmore may have made the difference when she put
Falcon's foot on the ropes after Randy Savage's Flying Elbowdrop. Savage was
furious, and prepared to take out his frustration on Lady Erica Whitmore when
Falcon rolled him up from behind for the three-count. Randy Savage was beside
himself after that outcome, and it's not surprising that Falcon decided not to
stick around and continue the fight after picking up this victory.
The I Quit Match between Jimmy Lockman and Virginia was for the most
part a pretty normal match, with focus on submissions. But towards the end,
things got ugly. Unsatisfied with the results of his methodical wrestling
style, Jimmy Lockman pulled out a pair of brass knuckles and nailed Virginia
with them, then proceeded to up the ante and bring in a wooden board with nails
driven through it. When that failed to gain a submission, he handcuffed her,
then whipped her with her own belt, but Virginia still would not give up. After
that, he produced a carpentry hammer and started smashing her kneecaps, but
still could not get a submission. It got to the point when Johnny Smiles tried
to interfere to stop the carnage, but the Manhunters disposed of him relatively
quickly. Even when Jimmy Lockman locked the Figure-Four Leglock on Virginia's
damaged knees, she still wasn't ready to give up. It's hard to say how long she
would have held out, but Arthur Justice saved the day, showing up with Stacey
Lockman as a hostage, and threatening to give her the Justifier on the concrete
floor. Jimmy Lockman quit, and Stacey Lockman was released unharmed, but it's
hard to say that anybody took a "high road" in terms of ethics in this match.
Fortunately, Virginia's knees were merely bruised, not broken or dislocated,
and she's not expected to miss more than a few weeks of competition due to
that. She won't miss any time in performing her duties as full-time, undisputed
VCW Commissioner, however, after beating Jimmy Lockman tonight.
Tony Garcia and David Wright Hubbard had a violent, chaotic brawl of
their own tonight, and neither man had ethical concerns on his mind in this
match as they concentrated soley on beating each other senseless. Tony Garcia
targeted David Wright Hubbard's back, while David Wright Hubbard seemed more
concerned with just beating the crap out of Tony Garcia. After a long, hard-
fought battle, including half a minute in the Torture Rack that left him in a
bad way, David Wright Hubbard seemed ready to prevail with the Flying Cross
Bodypress, when Tony Garcia did something that has never before been done, and
caught all two hundred and sixty-odd pounds of David Wright Hubbard out of the
air. He followed that amazing feat of strength with a thundering powerslam,
nearly winning the match. After that failed to put away David Wright Hubbard,
Tony Garcia followed it up with a massive choke slam, then surprised everybody
by going airborne with a three hundred and fifty pound flying bodypress. Even
that couldn't keep David Wright Hubbard down, so Tony Garcia decided to put
David Wright Hubbard through a table with a power bomb to finish him off. That
plan backfired, however, and Tony Garcia went through the table himself,
leaving him too wobbly to catch the next Flying Cross Bodypress, which put him
away after a hard-fought, unbelievably close match.
There was only one thing left after that, and it was our main event.
Neytron DelArmeggio's desperation and hatred were as plain as day as he worked
over Troy Black's injured neck with a sadistic purpose. Troy Black somehow
fought through all of Neytron DelArmeggio's attempts to stay in the match,
lashing out with reckless abandon and brawling as though he had nothing to
lose. In the end, however, the technical wrestling ability of Neytron
DelArmeggio, combined with the injury of Troy Black, seemed to spell the end of
the match, as Neytron DelArmeggio delivered a Piledriver to Troy Black... only
to have him kick out at two and nine-tenths. Rather than allow Troy Black to
make a comeback, however, Neytron DelArmeggio nonchalantly picked Troy Black up
and delivered SIX more Piledrivers, then went for the cover again... only to
nearly faint when Troy Black kicked out at two with authority.
To Neytron's credit, he didn't lose his composure, and retained control
of the match with a quick eye gouge. He then reached deeper into his arsenal to
pull out an ultimate weapon, introducing the Burning Hammer (inverted Death
Valley Driver) to VCW. It only got two and nine-tenths. A Destiny Driver also
got two and nine-tenths. Neytron DelArmeggio had one more trick up his sleeve,
putting the nearly lifeless Troy Black on the turnbuckle, then bringing him
down with a devestating top-rope piledriver. Troy Black crumpled and deflated
as he hit the ring, and so did the crowd... at least before Troy Black came
back to life and kicked out at the last fraction of a second.
Neytron DelArmeggio had reached the bottom of his endless arsenal, and
now was at a loss for what to do. He went back for another Piledriver, but this
time Troy Black backdropped him, then proceeded to come back and unload on him.
After the double arm DDT, Troy Black threw a little insult Neytron's way before
nailing him with a piledriver, which he then followed up with the Black Dagger
for the victory. Troy Black is your winner and still VCW World Champion, and
Neytron DelArmeggio is one unhappy individual who won't be getting any more
World Title shots for the rest of his VCW career.
Melissa DelArmeggio came to the ring to celebrate with Troy Black, as
expected, and though his neck was obviously in great pain (though it's still
not known why he wasn't paralyzed or dead by this point), he seemed happy with
the ending. Neytron even seemed to reform, apologizing and professing respect
for Troy Black, offering to buy them dinner and asking for a word alone with
Melissa. That was only a pretense, however, as he proceeded to nail Melissa
with a Piledriver, then dared Troy Black to come in the ring and fight him
again. He got what he asked for, as Troy Black reentered the ring and lashed
out at him, nailing him with another double arm DDT and Black Dagger, leaving
him laid out in the ring as Troy departed with Melissa and his VCW World Title.
It's hard to say what to expect tomorrow night. Tomorrow night's show
marks the first night of Virginia's reign as full VCW Commissioner, and not
much is known apart from that. Nobody knows quite what to expect when Virginia
takes the reigns full-time after having them snatched from her in a mere day
after winning control of VCW last time. Whatever happens, you won't want to
miss it, so make sure you're with us tomorrow night to watch VCW Monday Night
Wrestling!!
