Match observations:
Random Casualties has come and gone, and with it came several events
that may have lasting effects on the face of VCW in the coming months. The
Random Casualties tournament itself was every bit as full of power struggles,
treachery, and uneasy alliances as we had expected, but the rest of the pay-
per-view was also filled with some unexpected and surprising outcomes to many
of the matches.
For anybody who cares, Russel "The Muscle" Taylor finally avenged the
Super Giant Ninja's recent turn on him by defeating him tonight. This still
probably doesn't mean that Russel's career will go anywhere. They were once the
worst tag team in VCW... now they're the two worst singles wrestlers in VCW.
With luck, they can move on to bigger and better things now that this issue is
settled, but personally, I wouldn't bet on it.
Leslie Edwards was certainly shown up in all respects tonight; not only
did Jennie wear a much more revealing bikini (which appeared to consist of two
stickers and a few strands of yarn), she also dominated their Bikini Oil
Wrestling Match for the VCW T & A Title. The latter comes as no surprise; not
too long ago, Jennie also defeated former employer Jessica Judd at Horror Show
'99. With a modicum of wrestling talent and athletic ability, youthful good
looks, and no evident problems with showing off most of her body, Jennie could
be the best VCW T & A Champion yet (believe me, that's NOT saying much).
The other members of the Technicians in action didn't fare so well
tonight, despite getting the first pinfall in the Four Corners Tag Team Match
over the Manhunters. They were eliminated by Hell's Bikers, who in turn were
eliminated by the Annihilators, who came out on top of the match as the number-
one contenders to the VCW World Tag Team Titles. But without any doubts, it was
certainly a hard-fought match, and none of the teams involved tonight can be
counted out of the tag team title picture in the long run.
Speaking of the VCW World Tag Team Titles, they remain firmly in the
grasp of the Wrecking Crew after tonight's match against the Immortals, where
the Wrecking Crew emerged victorious and eliminated the doubts raised by the
inconclusive result of their meeting at the Big Fight. It looks like the
Annihilators are next on the horizon for them... from the looks of things,
we'll be seeing a sequel to the hard-fought tag team title match at Wrestlewar.
Do the Annihilators have what it takes to win the VCW World Tag Team Titles
this time around? One way or another, it's a good bet that we'll find out the
answer fairly soon.
Speaking of tag teams, one of the more understated stories of the night
is that of the team that never even got out of the curtain, the team of Rob
Solomon and Devaccio Pola. Devaccio Pola decided to attack Rob Solomon rather
than team with him, but his plan backfired when Neytron DelArmeggio, who had
been spying inside a broom closet in case his friend Solomon was in danger,
caught him from behind. Devaccio Pola took two Piledrivers on the concrete
floor, and Rob Solomon decided to take the night off rather than to go alone in
the tournament. As a result, the Middle-Aged Outlaws advanced... only to be
crushed in the second round, as we knew they'd be. But in case there were any
doubts, it's obvious Devaccio Pola and Rob Solomon still want to murder each
other... considering the hardcore fighting styles of both men, this could be a
great match for the next VCW pay-per-view event, Disaster Area.
In her quest to prove herself worthy of competing in the same ring with
everyone else in VCW, it's hard to call Virginia's showing tonight a failure;
she took the fight to the legendary "Pretty Boy" Jimmy Lockman. But in terms of
winning the match and leaving the ring with her dignity, Virginia didn't fare
so well. Not only did she end up submitting in Jimmy Lockman's Figure-Four
Leglock, but after the match, Jimmy Lockman took it upon herself to beat her
like a child with his cane. Jimmy Lockman has never been known for being a
paragon of good taste and decency, but this certainly wasn't behavior that one
could expect from a person in as high a position as Commissioner. But is this
feud over? Only Virginia and Jimmy Lockman can answer that question for sure.
Rebecca Black's plan of drafting Tony Atlas into service to gain revenge
upon Tattoo failed, and it failed miserably. Tony Atlas matched power with
Tattoo for a few minutes, but after a while Tattoo simply beat the hell out of
Atlas with his powerful offense and finished him off with the Jackhammer
relatively quickly. If any VCW wrestlers were having doubts about defying
Tattoo's authority, those doubts are probably now being pushed back by common
sense. Is it any wonder that many wrestlers are scared to use illegal tactics
on Tattoo's shift?
After his loss to David Wright Hubbard last Monday night, it was almost
as if a sign of weakness was showing on Troy Black. Evidently that led Chris
Champlain to underestimate him, and he paid the price, as Troy Black returned
to pay-per-view competition as good as ever, pummelling Chris Champlain into
the mat almost from the opening bell. Chris Champlain came back and launched
some of his devestating high-risk offense on Troy Black, trying a few blows
with foreign objects for good measure, but he encountered a problem all too
familiar to Troy Black's enemies... Troy Black just wouldn't stay down. In the
end, the double arm DDT and Black Dagger combination stopped Chris Champlain
like many others before him, and Troy Black came out of the match victorious.
But it wasn't the last that VCW would see of Troy Black tonight.
Gabriel Black did it... he won the Random Casualties tournament despite
all doubts, and pulled out every trick in the book doing it. An Inquisition
beating stopped David Wright Hubbard dead in his tracks in the first round when
his teammate, Inquisition member Bass Rogers, turned on him. While Johnny
Smiles was clever enough to make sure he neutralized Rex Richards for the
second round match, he wasn't skilled enough to defeat Gabriel Black. Then,
when pitted against the moderately cohesive team of Lance Errington and Neytron
DelArmeggio, Gabriel somehow pulled another victory out of nowhere with an
unexpected small package on Neytron DelArmeggio that ended the match before
either Neytron or Lance knew what had happened.
After that match, Gabriel rejoiced in his victory, and the fact that he
would no longer have to carry Haigeikobai through tag team matches. To
celebrate, he gave Haigeikobai the Destiny Driver, breaking his neck and
requiring his removal to the hospital. Haigeikobai has yet to regain any
mobility from his broken neck, and his future as a wrestler is tentative at
best, but the IMPORTANT story here is that Gabriel Black now had no opponent in
the final round. VCW Commissioner James Lockman was quick to fix that with a
little poetic justice... he gave David Wright Hubbard a chance to get in the
ring as Gabriel Black's opponent.
Despite an injured knee from Troy Black's attack last Monday and the
lingering effects of Gabriel and Bass Rogers's beatdown earlier tonight, David
Wright Hubbard came out ready for action, and caught Gabriel Black completely
off guard. Even in this unexpected situation, Gabriel Black proved to be an
intelligent and dangerous opponent, viciously working over David Wright
Hubbard's injured knee. But David Wright Hubbard blocked out all the pain and
continued to bounce Gabriel Black around the ring like a pinball, until it
appeared that victory was in sure sight. The only problem was that the referee,
Jerry Rogers, had taken a misguided Yakuza kick seconds earlier, and wasn't
coherent enough to count a pinfall, or disqualify Gabriel Black when Troy Black
entered the ring and laid David Wright Hubbard out with a double arm DDT. After
that, it was a simple matter for Gabriel Black to slap on the figure-four
leglock, and the damage to David Wright Hubbard's knee proved to be too much as
he passed out from the pain, giving Gabriel Black the win. But why did Troy
Black help his brother, who injured his neck months earlier? And perhaps more
importantly, what sort of booking can we expect from the devious mind of
Gabriel Black tomorrow?
There was only one conceivable thing that could top that match... and we
saw it next. Crimson faced Falcon in a no-disqualification, no-countout, no-
time-limit match, and it was everything we thought it would be. In between
getting bounced around the ringside area and put through tables by Crimson,
Falcon managed to hold his own with high-risk and brawling offense, as well as
attacks to Crimson's knees. Neither plan proved to be successful, as Crimson
broke a figure-four leglock applied by Falcon with relative ease, then later in
the match kicked out of the Superkick and just went berserk on Falcon, beating
the living crap out of him before finishing him with the Chokeslam. Falcon
definitely demonstrated the endurance that made him the "ninety-minute man"
tonight, though, even in losing... he endured the best Crimson could throw at
him, including a Chokeslam through a table, and managed to stay in the ring
one-on-one with Crimson longer than any other VCW wrestler save the Torturer.
Not too shabby of a performance by Falcon... and certainly, we saw quite the
impressive performance by Crimson as well, who proved tonight that he's capable
of taking apart the best VCW has to offer. A victory over Falcon decisively
proves that Crimson's undefeated streak is no accident.
Normally, these post-pay-per-view comments end with a preview of
tomorrow night's episode of Monday Night Wrestling... but tonight, we can't do
that. Who knows what sort of booking decisions Gabriel Black will make with the
power he won by winning Random Casualties? The only thing that can be said for
sure is that if there was ever a night for the Inquisition to do big business,
it's tomorrow night. Don't miss the Gabriel Black edition of VCW Monday Night
Wrestling!!
