Match observations:
Tonight, the event that was the Big Fight was everything we expected it
to be and more; it was so big that VCW had to avoid using the traditional
Waste-of-Time (thank God) and begin the show a half-hour early. This extra time
was needed, as there were two matches that lasted in the vicinity of a half-
hour, and the Big Fight battle royal itself was an hour and a half long, due in
part to an unprecedented THREE minutes between wrestler entrances. Despite
relatively few matches on the card, the Big Fight was positively loaded with
action tonight.
The evening started, appropriately enough, with an Evening Gown Match.
Might as well as get this over with first. And it was a rather disappointing
sight, as it featured two non-wrestlers fighting with a series of hair pulls
and side headlocks for about six minutes, and in the end we saw almost nothing
that we haven't seen before, in terms of the stripping involved in the match.
Hopefully, this will be the only meeting of Nicole and Bretta "The Barmaid"
Biffcork in the ring for a good long time.
The next match, featuring Virginia against Rebecca Black, featured a
chance for at least marginally better wrestling than the match before. It also
seemed to provide a better chance to see T and A, as Rebecca teased the crowd
with the promise of showing some nudity before the match. However, much to the
disappointment of the crowd, it was Falcon who started taking off his clothes.
Fortunately for the vast majority of VCW fans who have no desire to see Falcon
naked, he was ordered backstage before he could finish. Unfortunately, this
match didn't get the chance to provide much in the way of good wrestling, as
Tattoo ended it prematurely with a fast count against Rebecca Black. Rebecca
tried to attack him after the match, but found out the hard way why that isn't
a good idea.
After that, the Immortals and the Wrecking Crew met in an extremely
hard-fought match, where no progress was made by either side. The Wrecking Crew
had trouble wearing down the Immortals with their teamwork and advanced tag
team wrestling tactics, but the Immortals had no better luck with the Wrecking
Crew, who seemed nearly immune to the Immortals' technical wrestling offense.
It appeared as though Ken Collins might be on the way to the victory with the
California Crossface late in the match, but Rock refused to submit, and managed
to fight off the pain until the bell rang, signalling the time-limit draw after
thirty hard-fought minutes.
The Big Fight itself, which came next, was nearly three times that
long... and amazingly, Falcon was in the ring for virtually all of it. Entered
in as the fourth man in the ring, it appeared that Falcon was going to fight
all the way to the end to win the Big Fight, like Ric Flair in the 1992 Royal
Rumble. He did make it all the way to the end, but despite a three-on-one
situation against Crimson with Bass Rogers and one of the Manhunters at his
side, Falcon was unable to live up to an earlier promise and throw Crimson out
of the ring personally; Crimson cleaned house and eliminated all three men to
win the Big Fight. Crimson will now get his chance to wrestle for the VCW World
Title at Blood and Thunder against whoever the champion may be.
The VCW World Title match had a decidedly vicious approach to it, as
Gabriel Black and Chris Champlain both went for blood against the other
competitor. Chris Champlain attacked Gabriel Black with a lot of high-impact
moves to batter him into submission, while Gabriel Black used a more malevolent
strategy; he attacked Chris Champlain's neck, obviously preparing for the
Destiny Driver. But each time Gabriel Black would attempt the Destiny Driver,
Chris Champlain would slip out, narrowly avoiding it. In the end, a misguided
moonsault attempt by Gabriel Black took out the referee, allowing Chris
Champlain to grab his iron mace and lay out Gabriel Black with it, then
continue to attack him with another blow from the iron mace, a top-rope DDT,
and the Split-Legged Moonsault. But as Chris Champlain prepared to attack
Gabriel yet again with the iron mace, Troy Black came to ringside and took the
weapon away. Chris Champlain tried to fight off Troy Black and reclaim his
weapon, but that was a mistake, because Troy Black fought back, kicking Chris
Champlain in the head, which caused him to stagger back into a reverse cradle
from the recovering Gabriel Black that won the match. Gabriel Black is still
the VCW World Champion, in no small part thanks to Troy Black.
But that wasn't the extent of Troy Black's involvement. After the match,
Chris Champlain attacked Gabriel Black, laying him out by tackling him and
beating him on the head with the VCW World Title belt. But when he prepared to
use his hunting knife on Gabriel Black, Troy Black once again ran in and
stopped him, laying him out with his own iron mace. Obviously, the crowd didn't
enjoy seeing Chris Champlain put to a stop, especially by the man who costed
him tonight's match. Troy Black left the arena to the booing of the crowd, as
both Chris Champlain and Gabriel Black remained laid out in the ring.
Perhaps we can find some answers to why Troy Black did what he did
tonight on tomorrow night's episode of VCW Monday Night Wrestling. His brother,
VCW World Champion Gabriel Black, will be there, as will Devaccio Pola, who was
amazingly relatively uninjured by Neytron DelArmeggio's seven Piledriver attack
(he competed briefly in tonight's Big Fight, in fact), and VCW World Tag Team
Champions, the Wrecking Crew. Make sure you join us for all of the fallout in
the aftermath of the Big Fight, and plenty of wrestling action, on VCW Monday
Night Wrestling!!
