Match observations:
The time has finally come. In just six short days, Wrestlewar will be
upon us, closing a chapter in VCW history that's been one year in the making,
and beginning a new chapter. And tonight's show, as the final edition of VCW
Monday Night Wrestling before this historic event, was filled with as many
surprises and last-minute power plays as could be expected on the eve of the
biggest pay-per-view event in VCW history to date.
After the usual undercard nonsense, we were introduced to the newest
member of the VCW roster. Contrary to the hints dropped by Rebecca Black as she
introduced this newcomer, it was not Chris Benoit, but rather Steve "Mongo"
McMichael, former WCW United States Champion and former member of the legendary
Four Horsemen, who would answer Crimson's open challenge tonight. Though
McMichael didn't fare better than anybody yet in VCW in defeating Crimson, he
is still expected to fare pretty well in the coming weeks in VCW. And without
giving away too many surprises, Steve McMichael might not be the only former
WCW star making his presence felt in VCW, if our negotiations are successful...
Johnny Smiles debuted a new T-shirt and armband tonight, along with
respective catchphrases for each, but he and Virginia didn't manage to overcome
the rising team of Jacob Idol and Julian Page. Lacking a team name, a unified
style, or experience teaming together, these two are still somehow currently on
the track to success in VCW. But they could be derailed pretty quickly in six
days at Wrestlewar, when they meet Tim Bell and Paul Canyon of the Technicians.
Johnny and Virginia, on the other hand, have their own problems with Moy
Lazzario and Chris Champlain; in fact, Virginia would return to continue her
feud with Chris Champlain later tonight.
Neytron DelArmeggio wanted to settle his feud with Rob Solomon six days
early; however, after their two-out-of-three-falls match tonight, that feud
isn't over yet by any means. Tonight's match ended pretty indecisively; after
each man had managed to defeat the other for an even match at one fall each,
they brawled outside the ring to a double-countout. Rob Solomon's lack of
adherence to the rules has cost him before, and it's certainly an weakness that
Neytron seems capable of using to his fullest advantage. This could very well
end up being the reason that Rob Solomon walks out of Wrestlewar empty-handed.
In trying to show up Lance Errington by accomplishing things that Lance
was never able to accomplish during his membership in the Golden Society, Dean
Sanders took on a task too big to handle in trying to defeat Troy Black for the
VCW Intercontinental Title. There's certainly no shame in losing to Troy Black,
and Dean Sanders can lay claim to participating in the best match of the night,
but this still has to slow his previously strong momentum going into his match
against former Golden Society teammate Lance Errington at Wrestlewar.
Though he was initially hesitant, almost seeming ready to rebel against
Gabriel Black's leadership, Falcon finally put it all aside and agreed to
wrestle Chris Champlain tonight. He did earn the official victory for this
match when Chris Champlain was disqualified for nailing him with the ring bell,
but he took plenty of abuse after the match that may have left him in less than
optimal shape for his match with David Wright Hubbard at Wrestlewar. Not only
did Chris Champlain attack him with the hunting knife, but David Wright Hubbard
also ran to the ring to begin his fighting with Falcon six days early. Chris
Champlain nearly attacked David Wright Hubbard with the knife as well, but
Virginia chose that time to run down to the ring, seeking revenge for her own
injuries at Chris Champlain's hands. It's been said before, and it bears
repeating... with the Golden Society gone, Chris Champlain is more dangerous
than ever.
As a favor to Falcon, Gabriel Black teamed up with the Torturer in the
main event, intending to take the Annihiliators out of action. They did
accomplish the impressive feat of defeating the number-one contenders to the
VCW World Tag Team Titles six days before their title match at Wrestlewar, but
their attempts at crippling the Annihilators after the match were cut short by
intervention from Crimson and Troy Black, who quickly took the fight to them.
Only intervention by Lady Erica Whitmore saved Gabriel Black from falling
victim to the Black Dagger. But will he escape the same fate at Wrestlewar? In
six days, we'll find out.
After tonight's show, VCW is mere days away from the biggest event in
its history to date. Without a doubt, the events that transpire at Wrestlewar
will determine the future as a new chapter in VCW history begins. Some of the
matches coming up at Wrestlewar have been over one year in the making, and in a
mere six days, they could come to closure. Make sure that you don't miss what
is currently set up to be the biggest event in VCW history. Make sure you join
us for the action and excitement at Wrestlewar, in a mere six days.
