Match observations:
As VCW continues towards the Big Fight, where we will find out who will
face the VCW World Champion at Blood and Thunder, the competitive nature of the
event is already sweeping over VCW, creating new rivalries and heating up
existing ones. In addition to the tension created by the upcoming event, more
tension is being added as a result of VCW Commissioner James Lockman using his
political power to influence the environment in VCW. His motives for this
recent level of involvement are varied, but the results are the same; there are
a lot of VCW wrestlers who will have to watch where they step in terms of their
relations with management.
We saw Commissioner Lockman's wrath early tonight, when he called out
Rebecca Black to punish her for her actions towards Stacey Lockman last week.
Rebecca refused to be intimidated, but she couldn't refuse Commissioner
Lockman's demands that she face Crimson in the ring tonight. Even Falcon's
intervention on her behalf couldn't sway James Lockman's mind. If anything,
Commissioner Lockman has definitely demonstrated that messing with his daughter
is NOT a good career move.
Following some brief, messy matches in which Bass Rogers defeated
Haigeikobai and Hell's Bikers defeated the Middle-Aged Outlaws, there was
another match, scarcely more credible than the ones before it, for Neytron
DelArmeggio's VCW Softcore Title. Is there really a single person in VCW other
than Neytron who takes that belt seriously? Moy Lazzario didn't state any
intentions to sell the belt and go out to dinner on the money made, as Bass
Rogers did, but it's hard to imagine anybody but Neytron actually thinking it's
an honor to hold that title. In any event, Neytron successfully defended his
title, defeating Moy Lazzario with a small package.
One of Neytron's recently acquired friends, Julian Page, was also
successful tonight, scoring what could be considered an upset victory over
Johnny Smiles when he reversed the Smiledriver setup into a crucifix. That
seems to happen rather often to Johnny; maybe he should be more careful. At any
rate, Julian's tag team partner, Jacob Idol, was less successful in his attempt
to defeat Rob Solomon for the VCW Television Title. Nor was the combined
attempt by Julian Page, Jacob Idol, and Neytron DelArmeggio to attack Rob
Solomon and seriously injure him successful, thanks to the well-timed return
and intervention of Devaccio Pola. As a result of what took place tonight
between these men, there will be a three-on-two handicap match pitting Rob
Solomon and Devaccio Pola against all three of Rob Solomon's assailants
tonight.
The Immortals are still the number-one contenders to the VCW World Tag
Team Titles after tonight, but they weren't able to pick up the victory tonight
in a triangle match. That honor instead went to Tim Bell and Paul Canyon, who
defeated the Manhunters to win the match. Paul Canyon, as one-half of the
Ontario Color Show, the only two-time VCW World Tag Team Champions in current
VCW history, is a proven asset in tag team competition, and Tim Bell, a strong
singles competitor, also brings a lot to that team. In the absence of a healthy
Owen Addison, this team could be the Technicians' best bet to capture the VCW
World Tag Team Titles.
There wasn't much pretty about the Torturer's meeting with David Wright
Hubbard tonight... they beat the living crap out of each other for a solid
half-hour, before time ran out on their match. The Torturer seemed to control
the later portions of the match, attacking with his wooden axe handle and
willingly sacrificing a disqualification loss for the first fall to weaken
David Wright Hubbard up for the second fall a few minutes later. David Wright
Hubbard quickly made a comeback out of desperation, hitting the Torturer with
some very quick offense, and seemed to be on the verge of winning the match
with the Flying Cross Bodypress when the time ran out. This probably won't be
the last meeting between these two... it certainly wasn't the first, recalling
David Wright Hubbard's victory over the Torturer at Deck the Halls '99.
Lance Errington was the victim of James Lockman's favoritism towards
Shane Douglas and Steve McMichael again tonight, but he managed to come out
ahead in the handicap match anyway when a surprise inside cradle, executed with
a handful of tights, kept Steve McMichael's shoulders on the mat for a three-
count. Is James Lockman just trying to create allies for himself when he enters
the Big Fight as an active competitor, or is this nothing more than a ploy to
entice other stars from other organizations to come to VCW? Whatever the case
may be, Lance Errington has found himself in an unenviable position as the
enemy of the two men who have been hand-picked by the VCW Commissioner to
become stars in VCW.
It's debatable whether or not Gabriel Black has ever faced a bigger
threat to his reign as VCW World Champion than Chris Champlain... but one thing
that is certain is that he has never faced a greater threat to his safety and
well-being. After a rambling speech that dripped with sadistic lunacy, Chris
Champlain delivered a powerful symbol of his intentions for Gabriel Black when
he shot a giant replica of Gabriel Black with a flaming arrow, sending blood-
like fluid pouring from it and causing it to go up in flames. That Chris
Champlain would go to these lengths just to send a message to Gabriel Black
definitely indicates that Gabriel has to be concerned about what's to come in
this feud, not just to protect his title, but to protect his well-being as
well.
In spite of attempts by Falcon to talk Crimson out of his match with
Rebecca, the match would take place. Though Crimson won by disqualification in
under a minute when Falcon attacked him with a chair, that attack didn't really
change much, as Crimson barely felt it before turning around and wiping Falcon
out with the chair. Crimson went on to nearly Chokeslam Rebecca before deciding
to show her mercy after all... in favor of giving Falcon the Chokeslam. Falcon
was ready for him with the Superkick, but even that didn't take Crimson off of
his feet; he caught a second Superkick attempt by Falcon, and spun him into
position for a Chokeslam, leaving him unconscious in the middle of the ring.
Fortunately for Rebecca and other innocent bystanders, Crimson decided he had
done enough damage, and left as the show went off the air.
Next week's show should be filled with major events, with many of VCW's
biggest stars present and in action. In addition to the return of Devaccio Pola
to active competition as he teams up with Rob Solomon to take on Neytron
DelArmeggio, Julian Page, and Jacob Idol, we will also see many other top VCW
stars in action, such as Chris Champlain, Crimson, Falcon, David Wright
Hubbard, the Wrecking Crew, and the VCW World Champion, Gabriel Black himself.
Make sure you don't miss next week's exciting show as we continue to count down
the weeks until the Big Fight!!
