Match observations:
Only six days away from the Big Fight, and the tension hanging over VCW
is unusually thick, as all of the wrestlers prepare to make the most of the
opportunity presented by the Big Fight, a chance to become the number-one
contender to the VCW World Title overnight. But since only one person can take
full advantage of this opportunity, the level of competition has risen to a
level not often seen even in VCW.
The opening matches of the card took place as usual; they were short,
messy, and pretty one-sided. The Middle-Aged Outlaws lost, as could be
expected, to the Immortals, the number-one contenders for the VCW World Tag
Team Titles. But when the match ended in disqualification after Jesse Smark hit
Ken Collins with his megaphone, the Middle-Aged Outlaws came out with quite the
advantage in the ensuing brawl, thanks mostly to their managers. That advantage
didn't last long, as the Immortals quickly turned the situation around and ran
them off, but not before Bretta "The Barmaid" Biffcork hit Nicole with her
serving tray, then proceeded to rip her dress off. As a result, an Evening Gown
Match between Nicole and Bretta "The Barmaid" Biffcork has been added to the
Big Fight, to allow them a chance to settle this issue and to provide some
gratuitous T and A for the pay-per-view.
After defeating the Inquisition last week, the Annihilators weren't so
lucky this week, when they faced the Manhunters and Hell's Bikers in a tag team
match. This time, Hell's Bikers came out as the winners, pinning one of the
Annihilators and taking their spot as the third-ranking tag team in VCW, right
behind the Immortals and the Wrecking Crew. The VCW tag team division is
heating up these days, and whether it's the Immortals or the Wrecking Crew that
emerges from the Big Fight as the VCW World Tag Team Champions, there will be a
lot of competition awaiting them.
After costing Shane Douglas a match against Lance Errington last week,
Steve "Mongo" McMichael was challenged by Shane Douglas to a match tonight. It
wasn't exactly a display of amazing wrestling prowess, but Shane Douglas's
superior skill managed to overcome Mongo's brute power and enthusiasm, and it
appears that Douglas has slightly redeemed himself for last week's loss in the
process. Still, all things considered, Shane Douglas's plan to become the
Franchise of VCW isn't working out too well at the moment. But in spite of
Shane Douglas's mediocre progress as of right now, winning the Big Fight in six
days could change that drastically.
The Hammer of the Gods, the newly-formed unit of Neytron DelArmeggio,
Rob Solomon, Jacob Idol, and Julian Page was especially aggressive tonight,
intending to establish themselves as a force to be reckoned with in VCW with a
series of challenges. The first of those was a challenge from Rob Solomon and
Jacob Idol to face Tim Bell and Paul Canyon of the Technicians. Despite some
mocking of Jacob Idol's colorful past with Marylin Silvera, the newly-formed
team of the Hammer of the Gods came away from this match with a victory. Their
other members wouldn't fare so well as the night continued, as the next match
would illustrate.
The next match was also a challenge from the Hammer of the Gods, in
which Neytron DelArmeggio set out to show up the man who used to be his leader
in the Golden Society, Lance Errington, in a Softcore Match for the VCW
Softcore Title. Unfortunately for Neytron, Lance Errington not only defeated
him, but won the Softcore Title in the process, leaving Neytron once again
without a championship belt around his waist. The only problem is that Lance
Errington didn't seem to want the VCW Softcore Title very much... can't say I
blame him there. Hopefully he can get rid of it somehow and eliminate the
ridiculous idea of having a Softcore Division in VCW.
Virginia, who was taken out of the Big Fight battle royal for a match
with Rebecca Black, was given a chance to earn another spot in the Big Fight
tonight if she and Johnny Smiles could win a tag team match. The only catch was
the identity of their opponents: Falcon and the Torturer. Johnny and Virginia
gave this match their best effort, but weren't able to overcome two of the
Inquisition's best tonight. After the match, Falcon and the Torturer attacked
Johnny as Rebecca Black attacked and mocked Virginia. The Immortals came to the
ring to try to help their fellow members of DeJohnnyration X, but it wasn't
until Virginia came back to attack Rebecca Black, laying her out with a power
bomb and giving us a possible preview of what we could see at the Big Fight,
that the Inquisition was finally fought off. Virginia will now go on to the Big
Fight not to participate in the battle royal, but to wrestle Rebecca Black, for
virtually no incentive. Talk about a tough break...
Despite (and mostly because of) the fact that they were partners in a
six-man tag team match against the Inquisition last week, Chris Champlain
decided he wanted a match with David Wright Hubbard tonight, in retaliation for
the misguided chair shot he endured last week from David Wright Hubbard. Both
sides agreed to the match, and it was every bit as violent a brawl as one would
expect from these two. Finally, it seemed as though David Wright Hubbard's
power offense was about to put Chris Champlain away, when the Torturer came to
the ring and attacked them both with the wooden axe handle, perhaps intending
to weaken Chris Champlain for his match with Gabriel Black in six days.
However, David Wright Hubbard and Chris Champlain recovered, and managed to
fight the Torturer off, avoiding serious injury in the process. For now, it
seems that they've put aside their differences, but it wouldn't be surprising
to see these two meet in the ring again at a later date.
The main event of the evening featured the two undefeated wrestlers in
VCW in one-on-one competition, as Julian Page took on Crimson. Obviously,
Crimson was in no mood to trifle with Julian Page, and it showed in the fact
that he finished him off in under five minutes. Crimson is now the only truly
undefeated wrestler in VCW. It's obvious that Julian Page didn't have what it
takes to beat him tonight... who, if anybody, does?
Crimson's share of action for tonight didn't end with his victory over
Julian Page, however. After the match, Falcon came to the ring with a steel
chair and attacked him. David Wright Hubbard and Chris Champlain ran to the
ring next, followed by the remaining members of the Hammer of the Gods, and
after one thing lead to another, the ring was full of VCW wrestlers, all
fighting each other, as tonight's show ended. If I didn't know better, I'd say
that looked like a rather unsubtle hint at what the Big Fight could be like...
There's still a lot of questions after tonight's show. Where was Gabriel
Black tonight? What was said between Gabriel and Troy when they spoke briefly
on the entrance ramp? Who will be the man to go on to challenge for the VCW
World Title at Blood and Thunder? And is there anybody capable of stopping
Crimson? Hopefully some of these questions will be answered at the Big Fight.
Make sure you join us for all the action and violence you've come to expect
from VCW... don't miss the Big Fight, on the twelfth of March, a mere six days
away!
