Match observations:
As VCW rapidly approaches Disaster Area, now only thirteen days away,
the general scene in VCW looks more and more like a disaster area with every
passing week. One minute, the Inquisition seems to be on a rampage, the next it
seems to be in its death throes. The Hammer of the Gods seems to have made too
many enemies, too quickly, yet somehow its members emerge victorious. And when
it appears that DeJohnnyration X can't win against the ruling powers of VCW,
somehow they manage to do just that. Will Disaster Area allow the dust to
settle and battle lines to be drawn, or will it bring still more chaos upon
VCW?
Despite spectacular failure and rampant dissention last week, the
Inquisition opened the show this week with a united front, and it seemed that
things were back on track at first. Certainly the beating administered to the
Immortals was a display of power, but it also has to be considered added
motivation for the Immortals to prevail at Disaster Area. They now have two
beatings to avenge, including tonight's assault in which Bass Rogers squashed
Nicole with the Moonsault. This seemed to send a message, at least temporarily,
that the Inquisition wasn't going down so easily.
The Immortals' fellow members of DeJohnnyration X, Johnny Smiles and
Virginia, had an easier time of it tonight, defeating Steve "Mongo" McMichael
and VCW Head of Security Arthur Justice in a match that was the latter's debut
in active wrestling. However, this victory has come with a price; later in the
night, James Lockman commanded VCW Executive Assistant Manager of Talent
Relations Cecil Myers to recruit an army from the independent circuits to take
down Johnny Smiles and Virginia in a grossly unfair handicap match next week.
Johnny and Virginia have defied unfair odds before, but can they defeat an army
of wrestlers? It seems highly doubtful.
The match between the Hammer of the Gods and Devaccio Pola and the
Wrecking Crew also took an unexpected turn, when Dick Douglas and Hell's Bikers
decided that they also wanted in on the match. As it happened, they didn't fare
as well as they would have liked; Dick Douglas was pinned after Neytron
DelArmeggio's Piledriver. The Hammer of the Gods may have lucked out here
tonight; it's well known that Hell's Bikers have no love for either the
Wrecking Crew or Devaccio Pola, and the Hammer of the Gods was able to pick up
the pieces after the two power teams beat each other senseless.
The leader of the Hammer of the Gods, Julian Page, didn't find himself
so lucky, however. He couldn't resist the urge to gloat with his ill-gotten VCW
Intercontinental Title, proclaiming himself Canada's new national hero and
making derogatory remarks towards his own country. But as Julian spoke, David
Wright Hubbard, the real VCW Intercontinental Champion from whom Julian Page
stole the title belt last week, came to the ring to reclaim his title. In the
process, he gave Julian Page a world-class beating, and demonstrated once again
why it's not a good idea to fool around with David Wright Hubbard.
Jeff Wright's failure to show up for his match on time resulted in
Russel Taylor doing double-duty tonight, and losing to the Technicians, but he
did make it in time to demand a match against Falcon and Troy Black. Falcon
seemed agreeable, and allowed them to sign contracts... contracts that promise
them a title match at Blood and Thunder if they should beat the Manhunters at
Disaster Area. Considering that Blood and Thunder is about three months away,
this obviously wasn't quite what the Annihilators had in mind.
Despite the united front displayed by the Inquisition up until now, the
team of Crimson, Chris Champlain, and Lance Errington proved to be too much for
them. In a repeat of the scene from Random Casualties, Crimson drilled Falcon
into the mat with a Chokeslam, laying him out for an easy pin. But Falcon's
woes weren't over yet; Gabriel Black criticized him for the loss after the
match. When Gabriel Black wouldn't let the subject drop, Falcon decided he'd
had enough, and answered with a slap that started a fight. Troy Black broke up
the fight quickly, and Gabriel and Falcon embraced as the show ended, but it's
obvious that there's still tension in the Inquisition. The outcome of the
matches at Disaster Area could be the glue that repairs the crack forming in
the Inquisition, or the nail that completes the coffin for VCW's most dominant
and feared alliance.
There's only one more episode of VCW Monday Night Wrestling before
Disaster Area, and it's looking as though all hell could break loose there.
Johnny Smiles and Virginia must face an army of workers from independent
promotions, and the Middle-Aged Outlaws will be present and in action for the
first time since their victories over Troy and Gabriel Black. In addition,
rumors abound that a former WCW World Heavyweight Champion will be appearing,
maybe even wrestling at next week's show. It's definitely not looking like a
show you'd want to miss... make sure you catch all the action next week on VCW
Monday Night Wrestling!!
