Match observations:
Disaster Area is almost upon us, and after what happened tonight it
appears that this year's show could be even more extreme and controversial than
last year's show. In the highly personal and intense feuds that will see their
culmination at Disaster Area, in a mere six days, the stakes have been raised
to the limit, and it's a good bet that not everybody will leave the pay-per-
view on their feet.
In the turmoil of what appears to be an Inquisition breakup, members of
the Inquisition nevertheless managed to remain a united and effective unit
tonight, defeating the Annihilators and the Immortals tonight in an eight-man
tag team match. Both of the teams who faced the Inquisition tonight will face
them again at Disaster Area, when the Annihilators meet the Manhunters and the
Immortals take on Bass Rogers and Moy Lazzario. After their loss tonight,
however, things are looking a little bit bleaker for them. At Disaster Area,
these two teams might come to learn the hard way that the Inquisition isn't
nearly as dead as signs would make it appear to be.
The other members of DeJohnnyration X, Johnny Smiles and Virginia, fared
even worse than the Immortals, against an army of wrestlers brought to VCW on a
pay-per-appearance deal. Johnny and Virginia fought off the competition as well
as they could, defeating several people, including former enemy Marty Jannetty,
but in the end the twenty-on-two odds made it impossible for them to emerge
victorious. They were left flat on their backs in the ring, with "Pretty Boy"
Jimmy Lockman taunting them to add insult to injury. Johnny and Virginia's
quest to fight the system in VCW is looking bleaker by the day.
What would have otherwise been more or less an undercard affair is now
one of the most talked-about matches going into Disaster Area. Jacob Idol and
Paul Canyon had planned to wrestle at Disaster Area, in what had promised to be
a dazzling display of technical wrestling ability, but hardly a main attraction
of the evening. But tonight, a new stipulation was added at the request of
Jasmina Ecstacy. If Jacob Idol wins, Jennie must strip completely. But if Paul
Canyon wins, Jasmina Ecstacy must strip completely. Needless to say, this casts
a completely different light on the match. Tonight's mixed tag team match
was inconclusive, however. It's one thing for Jacob Idol to defeat a woman half
his size; it's another thing entirely to defeat a talented male wrestler like
Paul Canyon.
Early in tonight's show, Tim Bell challenged Neytron DelArmeggio to
defend the very existance of the VCW Softcore Title in exchange for a shot at
the VCW Television Title at Disaster Area, and Julian Page challenged David
Wright Hubbard to defend the VCW Intercontinental Title at Disaster Area as
well. A little later in the evening, both challenges were answered when Neytron
DelArmeggio and David Wright Hubbard faced each other in a non-title match.
David Wright Hubbard emerged victorious, but possibly at a price; Neytron
attacked his leg relentlessly tonight, obviously with the intent of weakening
him up for Julian Page at Disaster Area. David Wright Hubbard is going into his
match with Julian Page with a knee in less than perfect condition; can he
retain the title? And can Tim Bell do us all a favor and finally get rid of the
somewhat absurd VCW Softcore Title? We'll find out in six days.
From the very beginning of the show, Crimson made it clear that he's not
intimidated by Troy Black, attacking him outside of the arena and beating him
half to death. After Crimson left Troy Black for dead, Troy recovered, then
returned the favor by attacking Crimson later in the evening. But Crimson also
managed to get up from the beating, and came back later to attack Troy Black
yet again, this time making sure the fight was ended by Chokeslamming him into
the bed of a truck, which then drove away from the arena. What will happen at
Disaster Area when these two meet is still anybody's guess; they beat the hell
out of each other tonight, but there was no clear end until Troy Black was
physically removed from the scene. But as a result of the nature of tonight's
chaotic brawl, the match between these two men at Disaster Area is now a no-
disqualification, no-countout match.
When Hunk Higgins promised a mystery partner to take on Gabriel Black
and a partner of his choice tonight, nobody had any idea what sort of wrestler
Hunk Higgins would find to be his partner. When he introduced his partner as a
former WCW World Champion, it was hard to imagine any champion that would lower
himself to stepping into the ring as the partner. But when the music started
playing, there was no doubt remaining. Former WCW World Champion David Arquette
came to the ring to take on Gabriel Black and Rex Richards.
Of course, as can be expected, Rex Richards and Gabriel Black dominated
David Arquette and Hunk Higgins. But due to still more interference by Chris
Champlain, the two Inquisition members were laid out without the referee's
knowledge, and David Arquette covered Rex Richards for the three-count. Gabriel
Black, left on the losing end of a match for the fifth week in a row, was
absolutely infuriated, and nearly took Rex Richards out with the Destiny
Driver. What saved Rex Richards was not any mercy or compassion from Gabriel
Black, but an attack from Chris Champlain. Adding to the split within the
Inquisition, Rex Richards refused to help Gabriel fight off Chris Champlain,
walking away as Chris Champlain attacked Gabriel Black with a knife. One has to
think that this spells the end of Rex Richards's membership in the Inquisition,
but Gabriel Black has not had an opportunity to officially comment on it yet.
Knowing the state of mind Gabriel Black has been in lately, this could spell
the end of Rex Richards's career.
Disaster Area is a mere six days away, and when it arrives we will no
doubt see many of VCW's most intense feuds explode. What will Crimson and Troy
Black do to each other when they meet in a sanctioned one-on-one environment?
Who will emerge with the victory when Gabriel Black meets Chris Champlain in a
Hardcore Cage Match, and who, if anybody, will survive? Will Disaster Area cure
the problems within the Inquisition, or serve to drive them apart even more
quickly? These questions, and many, many more, will all be answered in a mere
six days at Disaster Area!!
