Match observations:
As we continue to count down the weeks to Blood and Thunder, tension is
building in VCW. In a matter of thirteen days, many wrestlers will face the
climax of rivalries that have lasted for several months. With so much riding on
Blood and Thunder, it looks like most of the participants are willing to put
everything on the line and raise the stakes as high as they will go in an
attempt to gain the upper hand.
After the usual nonsense in the opening cards, we saw an example of how
intense some rivalries have become when David Wright Hubbard had some scathing
words for "Macho Man" Randy Savage. His claims that Randy Savage is unable to
compete at the level he once did have been echoed by many other obeservers in
the latter days of the Macho Man's career, and more than anything are the words
that Savage would love to refute with a strong showing at Blood and Thunder.
For both David Wright Hubbard and Randy Savage, Blood and Thunder is especially
important; David Wright Hubbard must perform well to show that he's worthy of
being considered one of the top stars in the sport, while Randy Savage has to
prove that he still has what it takes to perform on the level of a young,
healthy, strong up-and-coming star like David Wright Hubbard.
Whether he intended to or not, Jiro Tobikuma has found himself embroiled
in a feud mere weeks after his debut in VCW. Not only does he have lingering
issues with Neytron DelArmeggio from weeks past, but he also now has problems
with Paul Canyon, after injuring Tim Bell of the Technicians with his tiger
driver. Jiro Tobikuma won tonight in competition against Paul Canyon, but it
appears that he hasn't seen the last of either Paul or Neytron; Neytron has
challenged both men to a triangle match at Blood and Thunder. That match should
be great, but considering the talent level of its particpants, who walks away
with the victory is anyone's guess.
The Inquisition, down to only five members present and active in VCW,
has also thrown out a challenge with a lot on the line, to Liberation X. At
Blood and Thunder, Bass Rogers, the Manhunters, and Rebecca Black of the
Inquisition will meet Falcon, the Annihilators, and Lady Erica Whitmore of
Liberation X. If Liberation X wins, the Inquisition leaves the building, and
therefore cannot interfere in the VCW World Title match later in the evening;
however, if the Inquisition wins, Lady Erica Whitmore will leave with them.
Erica was extremely persistent in urging Falcon to accept the match, seemingly
without regard for the possible consequences; one has to think that if the
match doesn't go as she has planned, she could be in some big trouble.
In the course of kissing up to Stacey Lockman, Neytron DelArmeggio
allowed her to request a match from him. He obviously didn't count on her
wanting to see him take on Troy Black, but he made the best of it. The two met
with the knowing feel of two old enemies facing each other yet again, and both
men worked well against their familiar opponent. In the end, the results were
inconclusive; after Neytron DelArmeggio took the double arm DDT from Troy
Black, Rob Solomon ran in and attacked him. The rest of the Hammer of the Gods
followed suit, but Owen Addison, Lance Errington, and Devaccio Pola ran them
off before they could do any serious damage. This, coupled with a loss by
Julian Page and Rob Solomon to Lance Errington and Devaccio Pola earlier in the
show, made the night for the Hammer of the Gods rather unsuccessful.
Johnny Smiles and the Immortals didn't fare too well tonight against
Hell's Bikers in a six-man tag team match. If this was a sign of what we could
expect when Johnny Smiles takes on Crimson at Blood and Thunder, it's certainly
a bad sign for Johnny. Crimson seems to be unstoppable; it's worth noting that
his only pinfall loss ever was to Troy Black, and even that didn't happen until
he had taken the Black Dagger a total of FOUR times. Beating Crimson may very
well be VCW's Mission Impossible, and Johnny would hardly seem to be the man
for the job.
As a result of that match, Hell's Bikers felt that they should be next
in line for number-one contendership for the VCW World Tag Team Titles.
However, VCW Commissioner James Lockman felt differently, citing the fact that
the Wrecking Crew defeated the former VCW World Tag Team Champions, the
Manhunters, earlier in our show tonight. As a result, the two teams will meet
at Blood and Thunder to determine which one will be the number-one contenders
after the Immortals defend the titles against Arthur Justice and Steve "Mongo"
McMichael.
Speaking of Arthur Justice, tonight's main event was a complete
mismatch, as Arthur Justice challenged Gabriel Black for the VCW World Title.
After coming this far with the title, thirteen days away from the second-
biggest pay-per-view of the year, nobody expected Gabriel Black to lose to
Arthur Justice, who is still fresh out of the Power Plant and has nowhere near
the experience of Gabriel Black. It therefore surprised nobody that Gabriel
Black defeated Arthur Justice easily in under five minutes.
Next week is the final VCW show before Blood and Thunder, and it'd be a
good bet to assume that VCW's superstars are going to pull out all the stops to
try to get the upper hand before the pay-per-view. Next week, many of VCW's top
stars will be present, including VCW World Champion Gabriel Black, the
Annihilators, "Macho Man" Randy Savage, David Wright Hubbard, and many more.
