Match observations:
As Survival of the Fittest draws closer and closer, it finally looks
like we're getting a clear picture of what that card may look like. With
Gabriel Black's recent elbow injury, the planned main event, a ladder match
between Troy and Gabriel Black, had to be scrapped. However, not only has a new
main event been proposed, but the Survival of the Fittest tournament itself
continues to develop, and many other feuds and rivalries in VCW seem to be
springing up that could easily lead to matches at Survival of the Fittest.
After a meeting of the VCW Executive Committee, the status of the office
of VCW Commissioner is temporarily in limbo. Virginia and Jimmy Lockman
currently co-hold that office, sharing power with the VCW booking team, and the
VCW Executive Committee continues to review the circumstances of the case. For
the time being, it makes for an unbiased, balanced product, but this situation
could easily result in quite a bit of disorder and chaos if the ambiguity isn't
cleared up soon.
As the show came to a real start tonight, we saw the return of Tony
Garcia, formerly known as the Torturer in VCW, when Gabriel Black called him
out to accept the title shot at Survival of the Fittest on his behalf. Tony
Garcia, still obviously angry after Gabriel Black injured his neck with the
Destiny Driver many months ago, was hesitant to accept, but after Gabriel Black
pleaded with him and offered to stand by him as Tony had stood by Gabriel
during his title reign, he agreed to think about it. As we would find out later
in the evening, those thoughts eventually became concrete reality.
The presence of the alliance between Moy Lazzario and Steve "Mongo"
McMichael is being felt in VCW, especially by Arthur Justice and Jiro Tobikuma
tonight. After a victory over Justice in the Survival of the Fittest
tournament, Moy Lazzario repeated that feat again tonight, once again with help
from Steve McMichael. In addition to that victory, Mongo gained a measure of
revenge tonight against the man who beat him two weeks ago, Jiro Tobikuma. With
a little help from Moy Lazzario, Mongo overcame Jiro Tobikuma to come out the
winner tonight. So far, this alliance has been successful, but they've been
making quite a few enemies in the process, it would seem. Whether that will
come back to haunt them down the road or not remains to be seen.
Christina Ellis is rapidly rising in the ranks of the VCW T & A
Division, without exposing the slightest bit of skin or ripping off anybody's
clothes. Tonight she reminded us that regardless of what kind of match she's
participating in, it can always end when one of the participants is rendered
unable to continue due to unconsciousness or injury. The detail with which she
described her possible methods of winning the Evening Gown Match tonight
intimidated her opponent, Nurse Vivacia, to such a degree that she stripped off
her own gown to avoid having to face Christina. It would seem that Christina
Ellis is rapidly heading for a confrontation with VCW T & A Champion Jennie,
who has been the most dominant member of the VCW T & A Division so far... but
can even Jennie stand up to Christina Ellis and her brutally efficient
wrestling style and ability.
We still have no answer when it comes to finding out who the dominant
tag team in VCW is, after the members of the Wrecking Crew split victories
tonight in singles matches with Jack Norman and Butch Manson of Hell's Bikers.
Ever since the controversy when their number-one contenders match ended in a
draw, both of these teams have been trying to emerge dominant over the other
and earn a title shot against the Immortals at Survival of the Fittest. After
tonight, all we know is that neither team has proven that they have an upper
hand just yet.
Despite their disagreements lately, including a rather ridiculous
spectacle involving a pizza on the ground tonight, the Annihilators were
successful tonight, thanks to Rob Solomon and Jacob Idol interfering and
causing the Ontario Color Show to lose. The Hammer of the Gods is known to have
very little love for the Technicians, including the Ontario Color Show, but it
also seemed as though Brian Rivera had a hand in the shady victory his team
acheived tonight, distracting the referee so that Idol and Solomon could do
their dirty work. That may provide even more fuel for the fires of discontent
that are beginning to flare up between the Annihilators, and it certainly makes
the rivalry between the Technicians and the Hammer of the Gods that much more
heated.
Rob Solomon and Jacob Idol weren't so successful tonight in their own
match, a meeting with Johnny Smiles and Virginia as a result of a request made
through Neytron by Jimmy and Stacey Lockman. Their interference in the Ontario
Color Show's matches came back to haunt them tonight when the Ontario Color
Show returned to interfere in their match, allowing Johnny and Virginia to pick
up the victory. Of course, it's to be expected that the Hammer of the Gods will
only be that much more eager for a showdown with the Ontario Color Show after
getting this taste of their own medicine.
Another member of the Hammer of the Gods, Neytron DelArmeggio, was more
successful tonight in his Survival of the Fittest tournament match with Falcon,
thanks in no small part to Stacey Lockman. Falcon nearly decapitated the
referee with the superkick, and that proved to be the opening Neytron needed.
Stacey Lockman threw him some brass knuckles, which he promptly used to lay out
Falcon. When Lady Erica Whitmore, who was at ringside with Falcon as usual,
attacked Stacey in retaliation, Neytron took it upon himself to give her a
Piledriver on the concrete floor of the arena, which required Erica to be taken
away by stretcher to the local hospital. Falcon tried to get up again and
recover, but another blow from the brass knuckles, followed by the Piledriver,
caused him to suffer a second loss to a member of the Hammer of the Gods in as
many weeks.
In the other Survival of the Fittest tournament match, David Wright
Hubbard defeated Bass Rogers in a hard-fought power match. Despite claims that
he would power bomb Bass Rogers to prove his strength in the face of Crimson's
doubts that David Wright Hubbard could execute the power bomb on him, that
didn't happen; David Wright Hubbard won this match through hard, physical
strikes and superior quickness. All the same, however, David Wright Hubbard's
power speaks for itself; after all, mowing down Bass Rogers with a lariat is no
less impressive a feat than picking him up for a power bomb. At any rate, the
Survival of the Fittest tournament brackets now look like this:

Tired of being labelled as "the referee turned manager turned inadequate
wrestler" or "the smallest member of Hell's Bikers", Dick Douglas took it upon
himself to prove himself tonight, calling out Devaccio Pola for a match.
Unfortunately for him, he got just what people would have expected from this
match, when Devaccio Pola beat the hell out of him and laid him out on the mat.
Like fellow VCW Power Plant graduates such as Moy Lazzario and Arthur Justice
have done in the past and continue to do, to an extent, today, Dick Douglas
seems to be searching for a path to success in VCW, and not finding one. On the
bright side, he's still young, and that has plenty of time to change.
In tonight's main event, for the first time in VCW history all three of
VCW's major singles titles were on the line in the same match, when Julian Page
put up his titles against Troy Black's VCW World Title. As it happened, all of
the titles stayed with their owners when the match ended by disqualification.
Despite earlier reluctance and anger when Gabriel Black called him out to offer
him the Survival of the Fittest title shot, Tony Garcia accepted with an
exclamation point by interfering in this match and beating the hell out of Troy
Black with his axe handle. But he didn't just accept; he wanted to change the
rules, making the match an Iron Cage Axe Handle Match. We don't yet know
whether that's the case or not, but we do know that Troy Black didn't stay down
from the beating he was given; he jumped up and attacked Tony Garcia before he
could even make it backstage.
As we continue heading to Survival of the Fittest, next week's show will
feature even more exciting VCW action. Julian Page will face Devaccio Pola and
Virginia will meet Steve McMichael in the final first round matches of the
Survival of the Fittest tournament. In addition to that, many top VCW stars are
expected to be present, including Jimmy Lockman, DeJohnnyration X, and VCW
World Champion Troy Black. Make sure you join us so that you don't miss out on
any of the great action of Violent Championship Wrestling!
