Match observations:

From the very beginning of tonight's show, VCW fans everywhere could
tell something was up when Jimmy Lockman and Virginia came out together,
working in unity. With VCW World Champion Troy Black injured and under doctor's
orders not to compete any time in the near future, it appeared that a new VCW
World Champion would be crowned tonight, in a thirty-man battle royal. Due to
their part in the beating that made this ruling necessary, Julian Page, Neytron
DelArmeggio, Randy Savage, and Tony Garcia were prevented from participating in
the battle royal, although Julian Page received a shot at reclaiming the VCW
Intercontinental Title and VCW Television Title against Jiro Tobikuma in an
Iron Man Match. And for Horror Show, an I Quit Match was made between Jimmy
Lockman and Virginia, with the stipulation that the loser will voluntarily quit
their job as co-Commissioner of VCW.
In addition to these decisions, Jacob Idol and Rob Solomon were finally
granted their often-requested title shot against the Immortals. It seemed as
though they would back up their big talk and win the titles at the end of the
match, but the interference of Bass Rogers and Dean Sanders quickly put an end
to that. Jacob Idol and Rob Solomon, along with their meddlesome manager
Jasmina Chastity, ended up laid out in the ring as a result of the attack by
Stiff Competition. This was obviously payback from a similar attack by the
Hammer of the Gods when Stiff Competition was competing for the tag team
titles, and it's proving to be fortunate for the Immortals. They can't lose the
titles if there's always another team running in to save them.
David Wright Hubbard was in many ways more fortunate than Melissa
DelArmeggio or Troy Black, and suffered only minor back injuries from the
attack two weeks ago. Still he wasn't expected to return to in-ring competition
for a month, let alone tonight, but that's exactly what he did, laying out
Brick Bradley (an independant worker signed to fill out the thirty-man battle
royal) and taking his spot in the battle royal. Oddly enough, this wasn't the
only unexpected participation in the battle royal, or even the most important
one...
Julian Page went into the forty-five minute Iron Man Match with Jiro
Tobikuma with a vicious purpose. He pulled out every trick in the book, from
quick roll-ups with handfuls of tights to attacks on the legs of Jiro Tobikuma
to intentionally causing a disqualification by hitting Jiro Tobikuma with a
chair. It almost worked, too, but Jiro Tobikuma retaliated by knocking Julian
Page senseless with his deadly lariats and suplexes, remaining in the
competition. A win by Julian Page appeared likely in the final seconds of the
match when he hit the DDT and covered Jiro Tobikuma with a handful of tights,
but the referee only got to the two count before the time ran out. They tied
the match at four falls each, and Jiro Tobikuma retains both titles as a
result. Still, it bears mentioning that this was a tremendous effort by both
men involved, and one of the closest matches seen in a long time.
With the debut of Stormy Weathers's masked man, Salvaje Demonio, in the
battle royal, and the intended presence of virtually unknown worker Brick
Bradley, nobody thought much of the unknown masked wrestler called El Guerrero
Enmascarado when he entered the ring to do battle with twenty-nine other
wrestlers. David Wright Hubbard, even with his injured back a heavy favorite in
this match, stole the show, tossing everyone in his path over the top rope. So
when El Guerrero Enmascarado survived to the Final Four, and David Wright
Hubbard didn't, it seemed a little peculiar. But after the elimination of
Johnny Smiles, when El Guerrero Enmascarado eliminated both Jimmy Lockman and
Falcon to win the VCW World Title, there was no more denying it... this was one
of those things that just doesn't happen.
And indeed, the situation wasn't what it seemed. El Guerrero Enmascarado
revealed himself to be Troy Black, wearing a luchador mask and alternate ring
attire, using a hitherto unseen ability to wrestle in a lucha-libre style. The
crowd popped, and the show ended with Troy Black raising the VCW World Title
high over his head, but the fact remains that, according to doctors, Troy Black
should not be competing in the ring. Whether he will be allowed to compete
despite that fact remains to be seen, but it appears as of right now that the
results of this battle royal will stand as a successful title defense for Troy
Black.
Next week's show is expected to be an eventful night as well, as VCW
continues to draw closer to a pay-per-view event which remains shrounded in a
great deal of controversy and uncertainty. Not much is known about the events
planned for next week's show, but it is known that Neytron DelArmeggio, Tony
Garcia, and Randy Savage will return from the banishment that was enforced this
week. Also, it's expected that the dispute regarding Troy Black's title reign
and the possibility of his upcoming defense against Neytron DelArmeggio at
Horror Show will be settled, one way or the other. Make sure you tune in and
find out what happens next week on VCW Monday Night Wrestling!
