Results of VCW 08/22/01: Pauline Vietjohn pinned Heather Dannon with the Leap of Faith in 0:04:45. Rating: -1/4* --Notes: Once again, the two rookie women from the VCW Power Plant battled it out in this match. Pauline Vietjohn's offense was very sloppy throughout the match, with several blown spots, and Heather Dannon seemed to have no clue how to cover for them. Eventually, Pauline Vietjohn made a return to form and hit Heather Dannon with a few nice moves, ending with the Leap of Faith for the win. Chris Champlain and Dave Adams defeated Russel Taylor and Tommy Hustle when C. Champlain pinned Hustle after a top-rope DDT in 0:07:29. Rating: 1/4* --Notes: Chris Champlain's aggression and Dave Adams's laziness made this an extremely odd match, with the contrast between Chris Champlain bumping wildly and laying in a vicious beating, and Dave Adams spending much of his time in the ring executing restholds. Russel Taylor and Tommy Hustle were filled with enthusiasm and energy, but they weren't able to keep up with the sneaky, underhanded tactics of their opponents, and that ultimately cost them. In terms of match quality, this was a style clash in many parts. Monty Pompous pinned Tom Guycot with the Swashbuckler in 0:06:03. Rating: 1/2* --Notes: Tom Guycot's whimsical offensive reportoire didn't seem to work out for him here. His Tomahawk chops didn't match well against the forearms and punches of his much larger adversary, and though he had his impressive moments on offense, Monty Pompous overpowered him and won in a rather unspectacular contest. Four Corners Match: Hell's Bikers (Jack Norman/Butch Manson) defeated The Wrecking Crew, The New Immortals, and The Technicians (Paul Canyon/Tim Bell): x T. Bell beat M. Lazzario via the Top-Rope Frankensteiner in 0:05:58 x P. Canyon beat Uldwall via the Magic Carpet Ride in 0:10:13 x B. Manson beat T. Bell via a moonsault in 0:21:09 Rating: * 3/4 --Notes: The four-team portion of this match was a trainwreck much like their last meeting, but after the New Immortals and Wrecking Crew were eliminated, Hell's Bikers and the Technicians salvaged the second half of the match with a decent, though unspectacular contest. In the end, referee Jerry Rogers took a misguided savate kick, and Jack Norman seized the opportunity to lay out Jennie, Tim Bell, and Paul Canyon with a series of chairshots. Butch Manson hit his moonsault for the win as the referee came to. Johnny Smiles and The Pink Kitten defeated Virginia and Brian Rivera when J. Smiles pinned B. Rivera with the Smiledriver in 0:08:28. Rating: * --Notes: Johnny Smiles and the Pink Kitten took a "New Immortals"-style comedy match approach to this match, and they and the crowd seemed to have a lot of fun as a result. Though Virginia didn't care much for the whimsical style, Brian Rivera was caught up in the madness and got silly right along with the rest. Virginia still seemed capable of dominating the Pink Kitten, but that was neutralized by Johnny Smiles outperforming Brian Rivera and eventually defeating him. Owen Addison pinned Jacob Idol with the Tombstone in 0:13:09. Rating: *** 3/4 --Notes: This match was a great technical wrestling exhibit by two of the best in VCW. They fought closely for the edge the whole way through, and Jacob Idol fared pretty well against his lifelong nemesis, coming close on several occasions to scoring an rare victory over him. That didn't happen, however; despite a targetted shoulder that allowed Jacob Idol to escape several previous Tombstone attempts, Owen Addison finally was able to hit it for the victory. Julian Page pinned Lars Coverdale with the Swan Song in 0:12:37. Rating: ** 1/4 --Notes: Julian Page used every trick in the book to try to keep Lars Coverdale from moving around quickly, and for the most part it worked. He attacked Lars Coverdale's right knee viciously, setting up a figure-four leglock. Though Lars Coverdale escaped the figure-four and made a valiant comeback, he was obviously hindered by the condition of his knee, and as a result not quick enough to stay ahead of Julian Page. Troy Black and Brujah defeated The Tough Customers when T. Black defeated B. Rogers by disqualification in 0:18:26. Rating: 1/4* (The Tough Customers retained the VCW World Tag Team Titles.) --Notes: One of the highlights of this match was seeing Brujah and Bass Rogers beat the living hell out of each other. As is typical for him, Troy Black absorbed tons and tons of abuse, and continued getting up and fighting back. In the end, he hit the Black Dagger on Bass Rogers, but Gabriel Black pulled him out of the ring and whacked him with the ring bell before the count could be made. The match was thrown out, but Brujah attacked Gabriel Black after the match, and the two men brawled to the back. Four Corners Match: Crimson defeated Ken Collins, Lance Errington and The Grave Digger: x double countout (L. Errington and Digger) in 0:11:47 x Crimson beat K. Collins via the Chokeslam in 0:18:06 Rating: * (Crimson retained the VCW World Title.) --Notes: In this main event, the two big men mauled the two smaller men for much of the match. Lance Errington and the Grave Digger were both counted out when Lance Errington hit the Grave Digger in the head with a pipe wrench, unseen by the referee, then applied the Scorpion Deathlock to him on the outside of the ring. Ken Collins did his best after that to cut Crimson down to size, and actually got in a lot of offense. But Crimson refused to be beaten tonight, kicking out after the Flying Dropkick and escaping the California Crossface. He finally caught Ken Collins and Chokeslammed him to retain the title.
