Results of VCW 09/04/01: Pauline Vietjohn pinned Mary Cohen with the Leap of Faith in 0:04:27. Rating: * 3/4 --Notes: These two young athletes put on a decent contest in a short period of time. Mary Cohen shows a very firm grasp of the fundamentals of wrestling a good match, and Pauline Vietjohn remains willing to take suicidal risks and use daring high-flying moves. Pauline Vietjohn is starting to get a reaction from the crowd, but Mary Cohen evokes no real response from the fans, who seem unsure what to think of her. Once again, Pauline Vietjohn emerges with the victory. Jockey Oldcastle and Monty Pompous defeated Brian Rivera and Karak when Monty pinned B. Rivera with the Swashbuckler in 0:07:26. Rating: 1/2* --Notes: This time around, Monty Pompous and Jockey Oldcastle were dishing out some heavy abuse, and Brian Rivera and Karak looked good taking it. However, Karak's skills are limited to hardcore matches with weapons and brawling, and he seems lost in tag team matches, lending credence to rumors that he will not be picked up by VCW full-time as Brian Rivera's partner. Rumored alternatives include buying Jeff Wright back from SMCW for an Annihilators reunion, or looking to more proven independent workers like Adam Logan or Johnny Stagger. Five-Way Match: The Hammer of the Gods (Jacob Idol and Julian Page) defeated The Wrecking Crew, The New Immortals, The Ontario Color Show and Hell's Bikers (Butch Manson and Jack Norman): x B. Manson beat Lazzario via a piledriver in 0:07:41. x J. Page beat Blade via the DDT in 0:12:30 x P. Canyon beat B. Manson via the Magic Carpet Ride in 0:17:49 x J. Page beat P. Canyon via the Swan Song in 0:25:03 Rating: ** 1/4 --Notes: The crowd was happy to see the Ontario Colour Show back together, and didn't seem to notice that they weren't quite the electric pairing of old. They haven't shown the same sort of synergy and precision that once marked their tag team matches. The Idol/Page combination from the Hammer of the Gods, while not as fluid a team as Idol/Solomon, wrestled very competently and took home the win. Meanwhile, Hell's Bikers and the Wrecking Crew appear to be in a bit of a rut, and the New Immortals didn't contribute much beyond a few nice teamwork moves and some comedy spots. Tom Guycot, Dave Adams and David Wright Hubbard defeated Lars Coverdale, Tommy Hustle and Russel Taylor when D.W. Hubbard pinned Hustle after a top-rope power bomb in 0:11:00. Rating: * 1/4 --Notes: Once again, Tom Guycot had to fill in for Chris Champlain, who is not ready to wrestle after Survival of the Fittest. This match featured a lot of spots in which David Wright Hubbard and Russel Taylor muscled around their smaller adversaries. Though Lars showed himself to possibly be the equal of Hubbard lately, Tommy Hustle seemed out of his league and was given a brutal beating that sealed the match. Troy Black and Brujah defeated The Tough Customers when T. Black defeated B. Rogers by disqualification in 0:16:35. Rating: -1/2* (The Tough Customers retained the VCW World Tag Team Titles.) --Notes: This was an ugly brawl, not a technical clinic. Brujah and Bass Rogers seemed determined to beat each other senseless, and despite his vast experience deficit compared to his opponents, Darren Michaels held his own pretty well, even getting a near fall against Troy Black. For his part, Troy Black wrestled an unusually slow-paced match, trying to keep his opponents on the mat in a chinlock for much of the contest. In the end, Bass Rogers seemed a bit out of sorts, and Troy Black managed to put him down with a double arm DDT and hit the Black Dagger. But when he did, Gabriel Black ran to the ring and attacked him, causing a DQ. Gabriel tried to stick around and inflict further damage, but Brujah and the Tough Customers chased him off. Ken Collins and The Grave Digger defeated Gabriel Black and Lance Errington when Digger pinned L. Errington with the Burial in 0:17:07. Rating: ** 1/4 --Notes: Once again, the Grave Digger gains a measure of revenge over Lance Errington. Ken Collins seems capable of holding his own in a wrestling contest with Gabriel Black, and the Grave Digger's sheer physical dominance tipped the scales handily in this match. After the match, Derek Cole took a chokeslam and a Burial from an outraged Grave Digger, to the delight of the crowd. Virginia and Crimson defeated Johnny Smiles and The Pink Kitten when Crimson pinned J. Smiles with the Chokeslam in 0:09:34. Rating: DUD --Notes: Virginia and Crimson manhandled their smaller opponents, but nobody seemed to be putting forth their full effort in this match. Any momentum from Survival of the Fittest seems to be waning for these four at this point. As with their previous meeting, Johnny put up an admirable struggle against Crimson, but couldn't contend with his sheer size and power.
