Results of VCW 09/05/01: Pauline Vietjohn pinned Mary Cohen with the Leap of Faith in 0:07:19. Rating: * 1/2 --Notes: A longer match than previous meetings between these two, but it was very solid and even. Mary Cohen continues to wrestle competently while drawing pretty much no reaction from the crowd, but Pauline Vietjohn's high-flying moves usually get a good response. They also got her the victory tonight, once again with the Leap of Faith securing the pinfall. Jockey Oldcastle and Monty Pompous defeated Brian Rivera and Tom Guycot when Monty pinned B. Rivera with the Swashbuckler in 0:05:08. Rating: 1/2* --Notes: It appears VCW management has decided to keep Jockey Oldcastle on staff, but not Karak. Jockey Oldcastle's in-ring work seldom impresses, though the other three men in the match looked decent, but management enjoys Oldcastle's gimmick. This match was more of the same, with solid performances from three of the men in this match, and Monty Pompous defeating Brian Rivera. Five-Way Match: The Ontario Color Show defeated The Wrecking Crew, Hell's Bikers (Butch Manson and Jack Norman), The New Immortals and The Hammer of the Gods (Jacob Idol and Julian Page): x O. Addison beat B. Manson via the Tombstone in 0:18:06 x P. Canyon beat B. Danson via the Magic Carpet Ride in 0:20:53 x J. Page beat Uldwall via the Swan Song in 0:24:58 x P. Canyon beat Idol via the Magic Carpet Ride in 0:30:13 Rating: ** 1/2 --Notes: The Ontario Colour Show picked up the win in this match, last defeating the Hammer of the Gods, but it wasn't the half-hour-long epic that might have been, partly because of the out-of-placeness of the Bikers, the New Immortals, and the Wrecking Crew in this match. Julian Page, while quite possibly Rob Solomon's equal or superior in many areas, seems to lack his chemistry with Jacob Idol in tag team competition, and is reportedly eager to resume a focus on singles competition. Jacob Idol was pinned in this match, which has to darken his victory over Owen Addison at Survival of the Fittest. Lars Coverdale, Russel Taylor and Tommy Hustle defeated Chris Champlain, Dave Adams and David Wright Hubbard when Coverdale pinned Doctor Dave with the Frog Splash in 0:14:15. Rating: * 1/2 --Notes: Chris Champlain returned to the ring tonight, but spent much of the match standing on the apron, though he did give and take a little abuse against Russel Taylor. David Wright Hubbard and Lars Coverdale tore into each other in this match, but in the end Coverdale had to settle for a win over "Doctor" Dave Adams. After the match, David Wright Hubbard clobbered Lars Coverdale and started to attack him, leading to a six-man brawl that was pulled apart by the H.A.R.P. Squad. The Tough Customers defeated Brujah and Troy Black when D. Michaels pinned T. Black after a Gorilla Press into an Ace Crusher in 0:19:25. Rating: * 3/4 (The Tough Customers retained the VCW World Tag Team Titles.) --Notes: These four men showed much more intensity and drive in this match, and Troy Black took a vicious beating from his opponents during much of it, playing a more active role then he has in previous recent house show matches. In the end, Troy Black wouldn't stay down for anything, until Gabriel Black ran to the ring and hit him with the VCW Television Title belt while referee Linda Peterson was down. Darren Michaels, not even realizing he had been aided, then hit the Gorilla Press into an Ace Crusher for what is, without question, the biggest win of his career. After the match, trainers came down to tend to Troy Black, who seemed a bit shaken up. The Grave Digger and Ken Collins defeated Lance Errington and Gabriel Black when Digger pinned L. Errington with the Burial in 0:13:21. Rating: ** --Notes: The Grave Digger's unstoppable physical dominance continued again, as he brutalized Lance Errington for another measure of revenge from Survival of the Fittest. The Gabriel Black/Lance Errington team, in spite of their losses, is showing good chemistry, and any ring rust on Gabriel Black seems to be overshadowed by his enthusiasm for these matches. Clearly, he's glad to be back, but he probably could have hoped for a better match outcome. Virginia and Crimson defeated Johnny Smiles and The Pink Kitten when Crimson pinned J. Smiles with the Chokeslam in 0:11:17. Rating: 3/4* --Notes: Once again, the larger, stronger team brutalized their opponents. Johnny Smiles's valiant struggle at the end drew less of a response from the crowd this time around, as the ending seemed foregone to many of them. Johnny Smiles will challenge for the VCW World Title at Wrestlewar, but seeing him dominated by the current champion casts a shadow over that future in the eyes of some frustrated fans. Crimson still doesn't seem inclined to break a sweat in these matches if he can help it.
