Results of VCW 09/20/01: Tom Guycot pinned Dave Adams with the Skullicide in 0:06:46. Rating: * 1/2 --Notes: This match seems to be getting a little bit better each time it happens, as both participants come to know each other's fighting style better and use that to their respective advantages. This time, Tom Guycot was wily enough to counter the interference of Nurse Vivacia; when she stepped up on the apron and exposed her bra, he pretended to be distracted, only to dodge a blow from Dave Adams and ram their heads together. Then he sent a dazed Dave Adams into the turnbuckles and brought him out with the Skullicide to win. Brian Rivera pinned Haigeikobai after a flying axhandle in 0:00:25. Rating: DUD --Notes: Another short, pathetic match. Haigeikobai tried to attack Brian Rivera with a bunch of goofy karate, but got kicked and snap mared to the canvas. He got up from that, but was knocked out by a flying axhandle smash. Triangle Match: The Wrecking Crew defeated Monty Pompous and Jockey Oldcastle and The New Immortals when Blade pinned M. Lazzario after a spinebuster slam in 0:10:54. Rating: -1/2* --Notes: Again, Jockey Oldcastle and Monty Pompous don't contribute much here, and they didn't win the match either. The New Immortals had some nice teamwork and despite their goofing off they made an impressive run for it, but in the end, in the midst of a wild brawl, Nicole accidentally hit Moy Lazzario with her croquet mallet, and he staggered into a spinebuster, allowing the Wrecking Crew to stand tall at the end. Pauline Vietjohn pinned Mary Cohen with the Leap of Faith in 0:05:04. Rating: 3/4* --Notes: This was pretty much the usual for these two. It might be pretty safe to say by now that Mary Cohen just isn't up to the task of beating Pauline Vietjohn. Despite that, and her inability to excite a crowd, management is considering giving her an on-air tryout match due to the temporarily diluted state of the VCW women's roster. Chris Champlain, David Wright Hubbard and Julian Page defeated Russel Taylor, Tommy Hustle and Dean Sanders when D.W. Hubbard pinned Hustle after a kick to the head in 0:13:17. Rating: * 3/4 --Notes: The dominance and ruthlessness of David Wright Hubbard, Chris Champlain, and Julian Page reasserted itself here. Their opponents, slightly outmatched, put up an admirable fight, but after a long struggle, finally lost as David Wright Hubbard nearly kicked the brains out of Tommy Hustle's head for the victory. Johnny Smiles and Lars Coverdale defeated Hell's Bikers (Butch Manson and Jack Norman) when J. Smiles pinned B. Manson with the Smiledriver in 0:08:16. Rating: ** --Notes: The crowd got into this match, which was a brawl with some comedic elements thanks to Johnny Smiles and Lars Coverdale, and the odd new candy bar-related mannerisms of Jack Norman. Despite that occasional goofiness, Hell's Bikers were as tough and ruthless as ever, but they weren't able to stop the quickness and youthful enthusiasm of Johnny Smiles and Lars Coverdale. Triangle Match: The Ontario Colour Show defeated The Tough Customers and The Hammer of the Gods (Jacob Idol and Rob Solomon) when O. Addison pinned Idol with the Tombstone in 0:14:31. Rating: ** --Notes: VCW's top three tag teams are still not performing quite up to potential. Whether Rob Solomon's saving his best efforts for an on-screen re-debut, or whether he's just not the same after his injury, he's certainly not impressive. Bass Rogers seems a bit discouraged and sloppy at the moment, and the Tough Customers just don't have the killer instinct they need to win against these teams right now. The net effect is that with some decent teamwork, the Ontario Colour Show picks up the victory. Their repeated success here leads some people to believe that an on-screen full-time reunion for the team isn't far off at all. Gabriel Black pinned The Grave Digger after outside interference in 0:13:13. Rating: ** 1/2 --Notes: Gabriel Black finally picked up a pinfall victory over the Grave Digger in this match, though it wasn't rightly earned. The Grave Digger was dominant for most of the encounter, and even when Gabriel Black took the advantage, the best offense he could muster wasn't enough to keep the Grave Digger down. The Grave Digger hit a string of deadly moves, but accidentally wiped out the referee with a Yakuza kick, leaving nobody to count the pin when he hit the Burial seconds later. Derek Cole ran in to interfere, but the Grave Digger caught him and chokeslammed him, but as he did Lance Errington came in and hit him in the back of the head with a pipe wrench. Lance Errington bludgeoned the Grave Digger with the wrench repeatedly, and Gabriel Black made the cover when the referee came around. Ken Collins and Lance Errington battled to a double countout in 0:20:34. Rating: *** (Ken Collins retained the VCW Intercontinental Title.) --Notes: In between a lot of intense fighting and skillful wrestling, this match had a cluster of chaos surrounding it. Rebecca Black ran out to brawl with Stacey Lockman while the match was going on, and the Grave Digger tried to get revenge on Lance Errington, but was intercepted by Gabriel Black, who started brawling with him. Ken Collins and Lance Errington also got wrapped up in the chaos, ending up on the outside of the ring in the growing brawl until they were both counted out. Crimson pinned Brujah with the Chokeslam in 0:11:34. Rating: -* 1/4 (Crimson retained the VCW World Title.) --Notes: Unfortunately, the main event was probably the least exciting contest on the show. Crimson just went through the motions again, and Brujah just attacked him without any apparent aim or purpose before finally being overwhelmed by Crimson's superior size and power. Crimson's performances have been unmotivated and mediocre at best ever since winning the VCW World Title, but this match approaches the Survival of the Fittest main event in terms of poor quality, and the fans really didn't seem to appreciate it.
