Results of VCW 10/05/01: Steve McMichael pinned Tommy Hustle with the Tombstone in 0:03:09. Rating: 1/2* --Notes: Mongo made a rare VCW house show appearance to brawl with Tommy Hustle in this opening match. His size and power brought him a victory, but he isn't expected to be a regular fixture of the VCW house show circuit. The New Immortals defeated Brian Rivera and Marylin Silvera when Danson pinned B. Rivera with the Minnesota Jam in 0:05:09. Rating: ** --Notes: More great teamwork from the New Immortals, and another strong performance from Bobby Danson, led to this victory over Brian Rivera and Marylin Silvera. Christina Ellis and The Pink Kitten defeated Mary Cohen and Pauline Vietjohn when Christina pinned Cohen with the Dragon Suplex in 0:04:46. Rating: ** --Notes: Though Pauline Vietjohn was a much better partner than Nurse Vivacia, she didn't have much in-ring chemistry with Mary Cohen, and they just didn't work together well. The same can't be said for Christina Ellis and the Pink Kitten. The highlight of the match was Christina Ellis flinging poor Pauline onto her head with a plethora of suplexes, then giving Mary Cohen the same treatment when Pauline managed to make the tag, and winning the match. The Knights of the Squared Circle, Chris Champlain and Dave Adams defeated The Wrecking Crew, Russel Taylor and Tom Guycot when C. Champlain made Guycot submit to the Texas Cloverleaf in 0:10:00. Rating: * 1/4 --Notes: Dave Adams seemed glad not to be faced with Dean Sanders in this match, and he was eager to get another shot at Tom Guycot, just as Chris Champlain and Russel Taylor were eager to face off against one another. The match was pretty unexciting in many parts, with the exception of seeing Russel Taylor bodyslam big, fat Jockey Oldcastle. Chris Champlain continues his winning ways in this match with a submission victory over "The Chief of Governors" Tom Guycot. The Hammer of the Gods (Jacob Idol and Rob Solomon) defeated The Ontario Colour Show when Idol pinned P. Canyon after an inverted DDT in 0:14:17. Rating: **** 1/4 --Notes: Without any other wrestlers in the picture, these two teams faced off in a close, exciting tour-de-force of wrestling prowess and athleticism. No titles were on the line tonight, but everyone brought their championship game. Some tension remains between Owen Addison and Paul Canyon, but it almost seemed to fuel them here, to drive them to try and out-perform each other, to work together flawlessly so that neither partner could give the other cause for complaint. Jacob Idol went after Owen Addison with all of his conventional bitter anger, and Rob Solomon fought and bumped and struggled like he hasn't since his knee injury. In the end, the Hammer of the Gods earned a huge victory, defeating Paul Canyon in the middle of the ring, but this match was so close that a second meeting could easily go the other way. David Wright Hubbard pinned Lars Coverdale after a lariat in 0:15:06. Rating: **** 1/4 --Notes: The previous match was a tough act to follow, but David Wright Hubbard and Lars Coverdale followed it pretty admirably. David Wright Hubbard brought the same kind of athleticism and intensity that he showed in some of his peak performances earlier in his career. Lars Coverdale's offense was exciting and perfectly-executed, and some of the bumps he took in this match were truly breathtaking. The power offense of David Wright Hubbard won out again in the end when he hit a huge lariat, sending Lars Coverdale into a 360 spin and knocking him out for the pin. Brujah pinned Julian Page with the Swandive Headbutt in 0:10:04. Rating: ** --Notes: Brujah and Julian Page were left with a tough act to follow, but Brujah couldn't seem to care less about whether the crowd enjoyed his destruction of Julian Page. Julian fought back with several dirty tricks and a targeted assault on Brujah's leg, setting him up for the figure-four leglock and taking away his Yakuza kicks. But Brujah still had other tools at his disposal, and after a stiff lariat and a double arm DDT, he put Julian Page away with the Swandive Headbutt. Virginia and Komachi defeated The Sailor Scouts when Virginia pinned Sailor Tasha with the Virgin Sacrifice in 0:06:31. Rating: ** (Virginia and Komachi retained the SJW World Tag Team Titles.) --Notes: In a rather strange attempt to find some competition for Virginia and Komachi, the Amazing Ladies' Wrestling World Tag Team Champions, the Sailor Scouts, were brought in for a shot at the SJW World Tag Team Titles. It didn't seem to matter, as Virginia and Komachi cut through them like hot butter and retained their titles with a very decisive win. The ALW World Tag Team Titles were not on the line, so no titles changed hands. Gabriel Black and Lance Errington defeated Ken Collins and Johnny Smiles when G. Black pinned J. Smiles after a fisherman suplex in 0:18:33. Rating: **** 1/2 --Notes: Whether it was a desire to upstage the two great matches already on the show or just each of these four men trying their hardest to prove they were the best, something brought out the best in these four competitors tonight. The enthusiasm and energy of Johnny Smiles and the total package of the other three world-class competitors in this match combined to make this match an epic confrontation with a lot of drama and great action. The honor of winning this hard-fought battle went to Gabriel Black, who caught Johnny Smiles with the fisherman suplex while Ken Collins and Lance Errington fought savagely on the outside. Hell's Bikers (Butch Manson, Crimson and Jack Norman) defeated Stiff Competition and Darren Michaels when Crimson pinned D. Sanders with the Chokeslam in 0:18:15. Rating: ** 3/4 --Notes: This match couldn't possibly match the last one for intense action and drama, despite the technical wizardry of Dean Sanders and the effort put forth by Butch Manson. The big, powerful brawlers took the spotlight, using all their power moves and battering each other viciously. Bass Rogers and Darren Michaels were intense and hungry for the victory, but Crimson is just too big and too powerful, and he won the match by taking Dean Sanders down with the Chokeslam.
