Results of VCW 11/03/01: Dean Sanders pinned Hasan Gilden after a power bomb in 0:04:04. Rating: ** 1/4 --Notes: These two men went into this match with different goals on their mind; Hasan Gilden was focused on showing off and entertaining the crowd, while Dean Sanders was just there to punch his face in and win the match as soon as possible. Hasan Gilden's lack of focus deprived him of any chance to defeat the tough, angry veteran Dean Sanders, and he lost rather decisively. Lizzie Carter pinned Mary Cohen after a swinging bulldog in 0:05:55. Rating: * 1/2 --Notes: Lizzie Carter's debut match showed off her high-flying prowess aptly, as she hit Mary Cohen with a number of athletic aerial moves. However, that was pretty much all she did, and this confrontation only resembled an actual wrestling match when Mary Cohen was in control. Nevertheless, Lizzie Carter's athleticism earned her the victory. Brian Rivera and Marylin Silvera defeated The New Immortals when Silvera pinned Lazzario after a Vader bomb in 0:06:22. Rating: * 3/4 --Notes: Like many New Immortals matches, this one was mostly comedy, with the low point being Marylin Silvera bribing Steve "Mongo" McMichael to pass love notes to Bobby Danson as both men stood on the apron during a Moy Lazzario/Brian Rivera wrestling exchange. As is often the case, the New Immortals didn't get serious fast enough at the end, which allowed their opponents to capitalize and earn the victory. Rob Solomon pinned Tommy Hustle after a sitdown faceslam in 0:07:13. Rating: ** --Notes: Rob Solomon didn't put forth his best effort in this match, seeming to consider wrestling Tommy Hustle in a non-televised match to be a waste of his time. He countered Tommy Hustle's energy and athleticism with some of his favorite old tricks, including the illegally-applied abdominal stretch and a number of lariats and kicks. Tommy Hustle managed an exciting comeback in the end, but when Derek Cole distracted the referee, Rob Solomon knocked Tommy Hustle out with a sitdown faceslam on a steel chair. The Wrecking Crew defeated Hell's Bikers (Butch Manson and Jack Norman) when Uldwall defeated Norman by disqualification in 0:14:21. Rating: ** --Notes: Even though the Wrecking Crew are now the same sorts of surly, short-tempered bruisers that Hell's Bikers have always been, their common ground gave these two old rival teams no cause to go easy on one another. They faced off in a hard-hitting brawl and power match, with occasional mildly impressive athletic feats from the Wrecking Crew. In the end, there was no resolution to the match, as the Tough Customers took this chance to get a measure of revenge against the Wrecking Crew and interfered in the match. After the match, all three teams brawled with one another indiscriminately. Chris Champlain pinned The Green Dragon after a piledriver in 0:03:32. Rating: ** --Notes: The Green Dragon is much larger than Chris Champlain, but he wasn't prepared for the vicious assault he encountered. Chris Champlain's skill and sadistic aggression gave him the quick advantage, and though the Green Dragon got in a few power moves the match was rather one-sided. The Tough Customers defeated The Jolly Rogers when B. Rogers pinned Guycot after a big splash in 0:11:13. Rating: * 3/4 --Notes: Despite their earlier brawl with Hell's Bikers and the Wrecking Crew, the Tough Customers were ready for a fight in this match. Some cheap shots and dirty tricks gave the Tough Customers the advantage for a time, but the Tough Customers' strength and intensity won the day in this match. After the match, Bass Rogers gleefully brutalized the Jolly Rogers' cohorts Seaman Staines and Roger the Cabin Boy, to the delight of the crowd. Melissa DelArmeggio pinned La Princesa Lobo after a choke slam in 0:03:18. Rating: 1/2* --Notes: As a veteran of many hardcore matches with Tony Garcia, Chris Champlain, and Amy Lin, Melissa DelArmeggio wasn't fazed by La Princesa Lobo's feral biting and clawing attacks, and she used her size and power advantage to break her down in short order. Russel Taylor pinned David Wright Hubbard after a running elbowsmash in 0:17:12. Rating: ** 1/4 --Notes: This meeting was a close, hard-fought power match, with Russel Taylor bringing all of his energy and intensity to the table and David Wright Hubbard sparing no effort despite his nagging knee injury. Russel Taylor proved himself by keeping up with former VCW World Champion David Wright Hubbard in a desperate battle, then actually defeating him in what might be considered an upset by some. With Russel Taylor holding a pinfall victory over VCW World Champion Crimson and now the man who beat him at Wrestlewar III as well, it looks like he may have a shot at dethroning Crimson in singles competition if his performances hold to this level. The Ontario Colour Show and The Knights of the Squared Circle battled to a double countout in 0:18:36. Rating: ** 3/4 (The Ontario Colour Show retained the VCW World Tag Team Titles.) --Notes: The Knights of the Squared Circle surprised many of their detractors by taking the fight to the VCW World Tag Team Champions. The Ontario Colour Show had them far outclassed in terms of wrestling ability, but the strength and athleticism of Monty Pompous and the sheer bulk and brute force of Jockey Oldcastle made them hard for the champions to overcome. Jockey Oldcastle benefitted greatly from this being a tag team match, and managed not to get winded or screw anything up too badly. In the end, a brawl on the outside of the ring swung to the advantage of the challengers, but they were so intent on pursuing their advantage and delivering a beating that they failed to notice the referee's count and were counted out. Johnny Smiles pinned Brujah with the Smiledriver in 0:18:45. Rating: ** 3/4 --Notes: Though Johnny Smiles and Brujah have a number of common enemies these days, that didn't diminish Brujah's aggression in the least. He went after Johnny Smiles with his usual lethal, non-stop offense, and kept coming after Johnny's attempts to turn the tide. But Johnny Smiles showed his own brand of resilience by enduring Brujah's offense and staying in the match, and after a missed Swandive Headbutt he was able to get off a hot streak of offense. Brujah cut him off with a desperate attack, but a lariat was ducked and Johnny flowed into the Smiledriver for the win. Gabriel Black and Lance Errington defeated Lars Coverdale and Ken Collins when Gabriel pinned Collins after a fisherman suplex in 0:18:18. Rating: **** 1/4 --Notes: Ken Collins's desire to punish Lance Errington was very clear in this match, as he seemed to consider Lars Coverdale and Gabriel Black afterthoughts. They weren't, of course; Lars Coverdale's aerial prowess and Gabriel Black's wrestling wizardry were both prominently displayed in this match to great effect. But Ken Collins approached Lance Errington with a vicious urge to dismantle him, while Lance Errington seemed contemptful and intent on showing Ken Collins up. Ken Collins's blind aggression fed an offensive frenzy that left Lance Errington hurting, but it also cost him this match as Lance Errington managed an unseen tag to Gabriel Black. When Ken Collins continued to assault Lance Errington, heedless of the referee's admonitions, Gabriel Black caught him off- guard and put him away. Crimson pinned Jacob Idol with the Chokeslam in 0:11:14. Rating: *** 1/2 (Crimson retained the VCW World Title.) --Notes: Jacob Idol had a game plan going into this match, that being to ground Crimson and work over his right arm to stop the Chokeslam. Had he managed to control more of this match against Crimson, it could have worked. But as many other opponents have found out, Crimson is very big and very hard to bring down. Jacob Idol was bounced and tossed around like a basketball, and the weakness and pain that Jacob Idol did manage to inflict on Crimson's arm made him angry and mean. Jacob Idol simply wasn't able to do enough damage fast enough to stop Crimson, and in the end Crimson made a point of giving Jacob Idol the Chokeslam with his bad arm. A snarl of pain was clear on his face, and it wasn't one of those dramatic delayed Chokeslams that ends in a deafening, mat-shaking impact, but it was still quite enough to put an end to Jacob Idol's World Title aspirations tonight.
